The Kingsbridge senior
girls' soccer team
defeated St. Patrick's,
Kinkora 1-0 on a goaj, by
Jackie Dalton in a game
played in St. Columban
on Tuesday, June 20. This
makes St. Joseph's,
Kingsbridge senior girls,
the .Huron -Perth
Champions for 1977-1978.
Members of the team
are Jackie VanOsch,
Annie Van Diepan, Diane
Miltenburg, Kathleen
Foran, Rose Marie
O'Keefe, Debbie Dren-
nan, Jackie Dalton,
Cathy Chisholm, Linda
Sinnett, Liz Vogt, Denise
Connelly, Vicki
Delbergue, Marion
Knoop and Betty Knoop.
On Monday, Mr. David
Zyluk, Principal of St.
Joseph's school,
Kingsbridge entertained
the Community Volun-
teers that have come to
the school on a weekly
basis, to a strawberry
social at Sullivan's
Restaurant. ,The
program, started this
year, has progressed well
and there are hopes of its
being expanded next
school year. Community
volunteers during the
past year were: Brother
Carl Voll, Clarice Dalton,
Betty Frayne, Mary
Clare and Denise Dalton.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis
McGuinness and
daughter, Moira of
McLean, Virginia visited
during the past.week with
Mrs. Mark Dalton and
family and with Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph O'Brien and
family, Goderich. Mrs.
McGuinness is the former
Delores Dalton of
Kingsbridge.
Mr. Carl Riegling was
admitted to University
Hospital, London on
Wednesday, June 14. His
many friends wish him a
speedy recovery. Visitors
from this area with Mr.
Riegling during the past
week were Mrs. Riegliflg,
Mr. and Mrs. ,Max
Riegling and Mr/ and
Mrs. Tom Hogan.
Sincere sympathy of
thiscommunit, is ex-
tended to the family and
relatives of Mr. Elliott
Carruthers of Ripley who
passed away on Monday,
June 19 in the Wingham
and District General
Hospital in his 61st year.
He is survived by his
wife, the former Grace
Boyd, one daughter,
three sons, three gran-
dchildren, four sisters
and one brother.
His body rested at the
McLennan and McCreath
Funeral Home, Ripley
where funeral service
was held on Thursday,
June 22 at 2 p.m.
Interment was in the
Ripley cemetery.

celebrations for Mr. and
Mrs. Eugene Dalton.

who celebrated their '40th
wedding anniversary on
Sunday, June 25. Mr. and
Mrs. Dalton have a
family of three
daughters, Mrs. Arnold
(Frances) Marsman,
London; Mrs. Alice
Julian, Anahein,
California; Miss Maria
Dalton, Nelson, British
Columbia; and two sons,
Maurice of Port Elgin
and Brian of Palmerston.
A family celebration was
held.

holidays all week.

away in Milton Cen-
tennial Manor in her 87th

Alberta who is a gran-
ddaughter.
London woman
receives medal
Miss Elizabeth Costello
of 440 Central Avenue
London, was presented
with the Queen's Silver
Jubilee Medal by
Lieutenant Comander L.
Truelove, OMM, CD1,
Commanding Officer of
the Canadian Forces -
Recruiting Centre in
London, where she is his
secretary. The award -
was made recently, in
recognition off,therit and
length of service.
Miss Costello has been
a government employee
for 33 years; 25 with
Revenue Canada
Taxation in London and
the past eight years with
the Department of
National Defence.
Elizabeth (Betty)
Costello is the daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs.
William Costello. Her
mother was Catherine
Finn, a former
Kingsbridgite. Betty was
born in Goderich and
attended St. Peter's
school there before
moving to London. She is
a member of the London
Chapter of the Sweet
Adelines, anc4 of St.
Peter's Basilica Choir
and enjoys a number of
hobbies.

was hospitalized at the

return to her home on
Monday, June 19.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter
VanDiepenbeek,
newlyweds, returned
from a honeymoon in the
Western Provinces. They
will be making their
home at the . groom's
farm at RR 7 Lucknow. A
special welcome is given
to Mrs. VanDiepenbeek
the former Barbara
Hamilton of Lucknow.
Ashfield had a tug of
war team in Lucknow on
Saturday, June 24 taking
part in the Kinfest. Those
in the team were: Paul
Eedy, Bill Wilkins, Kevin
Austin, Mike Courtney,
Kenny Hamilton, Donnie
Kuik, Louie Sloetjes, and
Maurice Miltenburg.
Lucknow and Kinloss
pulled with Lucknow the
winner. Ashfield pulled
first against the Kinsmen
and then against
Lucknow and won. Finlay
McDonald was in charge
of the team and accepted
the trophy on behalf of
the Ashfield team.
Congratulations boys.
The St. Louis Choir
from Waterloo were
present to sing at the
Sunday morning Mass at
St. Joseph's Church,
Kingsbridge on June 25.
SCHOOL NEWS
Playday for Kin-
dergarten to Grade 4
students of St. Joseph's
School, Kingsbridge was
held recently. Games
played were: obstacle
push ball, crab grab,
standing broad jump, tug
of war, obstacle course,
water boy relay, run the
bases, and wheel barrel
r.ace. First place winner
was a tie between three
teams.
Kindergarten Orien-
tation was held on
Friday, June 16 when
next year's kindergarten
students visited teacher
Mrs. Mary O'Keefe and
this year's kindergarten
students. The students
were taken home after
lunch by their parents.
House League finals
have either been played
or are close to com-
pletion.
Next week the last day
for school is Thursday,
June 29. This day will
start with mass and after
mass, awards for 1978
will be presented. In the
evening a graduation
banquet and mass is to be,
held beginning at 7 p.m.
