Site Preparation '78 Council Briefs During a recent citizens' question and answer period at town council, Jim Searls wanted to know if the parks department employees had planted flowers on overtime._ He was told by Parks Chairman Elsa Haydon this was done out of necessity. Searls charged that when the sewer had backed up on a weekend, he was advised to wait until Monday for repairs. Searls said that in his opinion, a backed up sewer was more pressing than planting flowers. No further action was taken on this matter. +++ The water -tower parkette on St. David Street is in need of a fence, according to Eunice I Wilson of Goderich. In- her letter to council, the lady said other playgrounds have fences , and she feels it is necessary that a fence be erected on this little park as well. Councillor Bob Allen agreed, • saying the teenagers in the neighborhood are playing baseball and football there. Councillor John Doherty concurred with Allen's suggestion that the matter be referred to the NIP committee with a recommendation that a fence be put up. Local dentist, Dr. Karl Campbell wishes to renewhis lease for his office which is located on the second floor of the town. hall. However, some members of town council, feel that the -space now¢' occupied by Dr. Campbell may be needed for municipal offices. Clerk Larry McCabe was instructed to have a talk- with Dr- Campbell, to see what arrangements could be made. -1-++ Councillor Bob Allen thought that $22 seemed like a small amount to pay if it aids the unity of our country". He was referring to a letter from the Postmaster General, J. Gilles Lamontagne asking that council consider using the slogan "Canada It's You and Me - Canada, C'est Toi Et Moi" on each piece of mail going through the town's pcastage meter. Special dies are prepared at a cost of $22 per plate. Pne would be needed for Goderich. Councillor Elsa Haydon said in her opinion, the idea should be rejected simply because of the incorrect English. "Surely it should be Canada It's You and I,” said Haydon. Deputy -reeve Eileen Palmer assured Haydon it was the correct use of the French. The letter was received and filed. ` Success doesn't always go to the head. Sometimes it goe,s to the l` mouth. + + + Remember when a Saturday Night Special was a bath, not a CBC prese.ntation? +++ Know what happens to people( •who fail their driving tests?
