(over Cashway Lumber) Goderich Family Mr. and Mrs. Doug McNeil and daughter, Mary Louise have returned home from a three week's holiday in England and Scotland visiting relatives and friends and sight-seeing while touring the coun- tries by car. They report a wonderful time and say they enjoyed every minute of it. The hospitality was just something special and they were fascinated with the beauty and conditions in both England and Scotland, with each country excelling in its own way. Farming is carried on on a large scale in most cases with many farms consisting of 1,000 acres. Sugar beets and grain are the leading crops and the McNeils were surprised at the number of Har- vester Silos on farms because, when Mr. McNeil was there 32 years ago, there were very few silos, if any. Sheep were quite com- mon with very large flocks and this was of special interest, as were READY TO SELL Triplex dwelling suitable as income property and -or private residence. Farmers milking 100 cows or more was fairly common. Another interesting fact the McNeils recall was the visit to the lovely historic place in Scotland named, "Leeburn". The older generation of Colborne will recall "Leeburn" in Colborne Township - the district on Highway 21 north of Dunlop Corner about one to two miles, where there was a church and as yet, is a polling division. It was named after this Leeburn in Scotland. The weather was perfect which gadded to the enjoyment of the trip but one didn't hear anything of Canada. The people were glad to meet the Canadians and children were especially' thrilled to see Canadians but the papers didn't carry news of Canada, at least they didn't seem to while the McNeils were holidaying there. So, it was a pleasant relief when they landed home again and found Canada still their beloved homeland and their home and friends waiting for their return with a warm welcome. W.I. SCHOOL NEWS A good number land Coiborne corner Gertrude Kaitting, correspondent, 524-2076 parents and friends along with students of Colborne Central School were entertained at the school on Wednesday evening . June 14,, when the students of Grades 7 and 8 presented "Fun in the Sun". There was an excellent display of crafts which the boys had made with 'teacher, Al Sumner as instructor and which the folks viewed. This included wood- working, lamps, book racks, candle holders, picture frames for copper tooling,' and then there were metal boxes, holders for small tools or pencils, etc., ash trays made with various shapes, mostly of plastic, and many other lovely articles. After viewing the display, the girls of these "classes presented a fashion show of the blouses they made with teacher, Mrs. Marilyn Bruinsma as sewing instructor. Karen Dam and Cindy Clutton were the com- of mentators for the' show „ during which Roxanne Kej.nighan played soft music on the piano. The garments the girls made and fashioned were very practical and well - made and very suitable for sportswear. While they served a delicious lunch of breads and punch to all, I am sure they received many favourable comments. Mr. John Kane, Principal, acted as' chairman, welcoming all and moved among the crowd giving a friendly feeling from school to parent. It was a very nice evening and a splendid climax for the year's effort in this department of school work. Students of the Grade 8 graduation class of Colborne Central School will be especially honoured" this coming Tuesday evening, June 27 at their graduation banquet and later at the presentation and awards night at the school at 8 p.m. Holidays , for the students will commence this coming week. SOFTBALL Softball has started and boys and girls of Colborne have really entered into the sport. Games v—iIrbe Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings each week (weather permitting) at Benmiller Ball Park. Monday evening the Pee Wees, ages 12-14 boys team coached by Andrew Stoll played the Varna team. The boys played well but lost to the Varna team. The Midgets, ages 14-17, boys, coached by Don Bogie and Glen Linner, played the Auburn team and won.
