PAGE 12--GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, JUNE 22, 1978 Sportsi Electrics edge Lakeport 1-0 in extra inning g An error in the eighth inning cost Lakeport Steel their second loss of the week as they dropped a 1-0 extra inning decision to Graham Electric Thursday. With two out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Bruce Bowman reached base on an error acid John Verway responded with a single to score the winning run and give Graham Electric their second victory of the season.. The teams had played seven and a half innings of scoreless ball before Bowman crossed the plate with the winning run. Verway not only batted in the winning ran , but recorded his first shutout of the season stopping Lakeport on seven hits across eight innings. He struck out seven, batters The Goderich Tykes started their season in fine fashion Saturday as they dumped Listowel 12-6 in their first league game at Agriculture Park. Sunday the team will play in Kincardine and their next home game is July 8 at Agent/Mine Park. The Goderich midgets defeated St. Pauls 23-7 in their opening game of the season and in subsequent games disposed of Rostock 19-7. Kinkora 8-2 and Shakespeare 8-7. The midgets won their fifth ga"me of the season last Thursday as they shutout Tavistock 5-0 behind the solid pitching performance of Heidi 'Elliott_ The game was scoreless through the )first three innings before Goderich took the lead with a single run in the top of the fourth. Sandy Rowe nailed ' a one -out single and later scored on Tavistock errors. Goderich added a • single run in the sixth inning as Rowe scored again and the midgets rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh. Elliott, Jenny More and Dori Oke scored the Goderich runs in the seventh inning_ Elliott was impressive on the mound for Goderich and only in 'one inning, the foar-th, did she allow more ikan one runner to reach lhose. What a great season we foresee. Our house league started on June 7 andall four teams are playing excellent soccer. The New York teams are playing excellent soccer_ The New York Cosmos coached by Doug Huff tied their first game with the 1978 Superstars coached by Warren Robinson. The score was 6-6. Garb and Gear Winners coached by Don Larder won their first game against Madge's Express coached by Roy Straughan with a score of 5-2. . On June 14 The New York Cosmos tied Garb and Gear Winners, 4-4. Then the 1978 Superstars beat N`adge's Express 4- 2. All games are Wed- nesday nights. On June 28th Garb and Gear Winners play Madge's Express at 6:30 and then at 7:30 The New York Cosmos play The 1978 Superstars. The travelling teams in Huron County are doing quite well. We have five travelling teams and The Squirt Division. The Squirts aren't in com- petition but are learning the basic fundamentals of soccer and are playing exhibition games only. The Atom "A" have tied two games and won 9-1 against Seaforth. Mosquito Blue Jays have only lost one game and remain in first place in the Mosquito Division. The Blue Jays won 10-0 against St. Coluniban, 11- 1 against Grand Bend, 9-2 against Seaforth and 9-1 against Clinton`' " B". They lost 7-4 to Clinton "A" in the first game of the season. The cup playoffs are running for the next two weeks with The Blue Jays meeting Clinton "A". bottom of the sixth. Crawford's homer spoiled Langlois bid mfor his second straight shutout after he blanked Lakeport 2-0 in a game last Sunday!'. Mclvor and. Greg Hansen led the Ziebart offence with two hits apiece and each player scored a rue- Keith Allen had two of the Little Bowl five hits. Ziebart puts its four game winning streak on the line tonight in a 7.15 p.m. contest against Creep and Parent.
