HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1978-06-08, Page 33Goderich woman buried Mrs. Bertha Ruddock of Goderich died sud- denly in Goderich, Saturday, May 27 at the age of 83. She was born in Colborne Township on July 30, 1894 to John and Elizabeth (Culbert) Cantwell. She lived in Colborne Township until her marriage to William John Ruddock on April 24, 1924. Following her marriage, she lived with her husband in Goderioh. She is survived by her husband and William Cantwell and David Cantwell both of Goderich. She was predeceased by one sister, Mrs. Bert (Lavina) Fitzsimmons and one brother, George Cantwell. A funeral service was held at McCallum Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30 for the late Mrs. Ruddock. ,The Reverend Ronald C. McCallum officiated. Interment was in Maitland Cemetery, Goderich. Pallbearers were Doug Kerr, Gordon Kerr, Leonard Kerr, Gary Kerr, Randy Kerr and Keith Kerr. Couple attend meetings The Reverend and Mrs. Fred Day attended the' 1978 Western Ontario District Conference of the Pentecostal 'Assemblies of Canada, representing the Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle of Goderich, Ontario. For four days, May 8 to 11, Toronto became the district city of Canadian • Pentecostalism. Delegates and visitors streamed into Toronto's International Holiday Inn, from all parts of Ontario by private car, bus and air, to attend the - District legislative body of over 145 churches of the strongly evangelical denomination. Mr. Bill Barwi fk of Goderich attended the Conference for two days, as the official lay delegate representing Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle, Goderich. The Reverend Howard Honsinger of Burlington, Western District Con- ference Superintendent, welcomed the delegates and visitors to the all- important conference. The Reverend David Roever, enlisted soldier with the U.S. forces in Vietnam, now spfving as a full-time preacher of the Gospel/ as an or- dained Assembly of God minister, challenged the Conference morning and evening with his inspiring messages.. Official business sessions began Tuesday morning with reports on the activities of the Canadian Pentecostals in Canada and 15 overseas mission fields. E lection of eight key cabinet level district officers was begun on Wednesday, followed by an agenda of proposed resolutions and election of 12 section presbyter officers, one of which Goderich pastor, Rev. Fred Day, became cabinet leader of the 12 church Goderich Section. Highlights of the District Conference Wednesday included the Ordination Service, addressed by Rev. Roever at the beautiful Kennedy Road ,Taber- nacle in Brampton, Rev. - Ron Stevens, pastor. Special Music was provided by the Kennedy Road Tabernacle Choir and orchestra. Forty- seven applicants received credentials with the Western Ontario District of the Pen- tecostal Assemblies of Canada. BISSET Live in Auburn St. George's Anglican Church in Goderich was prettily decorated with candelabras holdingpink candles and fuiji chrysanthemums on Saturday, May 15 at 4:30 p.m. for, the wedding ceremony in which Kenneth James Mullen of Goderioh and Nancy Lynne Needhamralso of Goderich, were. united in marriage. The groom is the.. son of .Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mullen and the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Needham, all of Goderich. The Reverend Robee t Crocker officiated at the double ring ceremony. Music for the ceremony was provided by organist J. B. Herdman and soloist William Stiles who sang We've Only Just Begun and Colour My World. The bride Was given in marriage by her father. She. wore a white polyester satin gown with chiffon flounces gathered from the shoulders forming flowing sleeves. Her two-tier cathedral -length veil was ac- cented with a pearl trimmed lace headpiece. She carried a bouquet of pink miniature carnations, stephanotis, }baby's breath, myrtle and fuiji. chrysanthemums. Matron of honor vlas Mrs. Vicki Kelly of RR5 Forest, Ontario: sister of the bride. She wore a silk polyester knit crepe sleeveless gown of dusty rose color with a matching jacket featuring a ruffled collar forming cap sleeves and peplum waist. She carried a bouquet of fuiji chrysanthemums, myrtle, and baby's breath tinted to match her dress. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Susan Jerry of Goderich, sister of the groom; Mrs. Carol Young of Auburn; and Mrs. Cathy. Hamilton of .Port Albert. They were dressed identically to the matron of honorand carried matching bouquets. Groomsman. was Norman Robertson of Goderich. Ushers were Larry Young of Auburn„Brian Hamilton of Port Albert and John Voscamp of Goderich. Following the wedding ceremony, a reception '. s held at Saltford Valley Hall. The hall was decorated with silver candelabra and baskets of/ fuiji chrysanthemums. Candles adorned the 'tables and dusty rose candles adorned the head tabF . A three- tier wedding cake was also in view. The bride's mother greeted guests,"i'n an iced coral polyester satin gown with chiffon,:tiverlay accented with pearl beading at the neckline and waist and featuring full chiffon sleeves. ,She wore a corsage of yellow miniature carnations with the tips tinted coral. The groom's mother chose.. a blue polyester sleeveless dress with accordion pleated skirt and matching lace jackey She wore a' corsage of pink carnations and stephanotis. For a wedding,trip to' Sandusky, Ohio, the bride changed to a/two-piece pale blue eyelet outfit featuring athree tiered skirt and vest trimmed with. lace and a x atching blouse. She wore a corsage.of pink miniature carnations. Mr. and Mrs. Mullen are residing in -Auburn. Prior to the wedding, the bride was feted at several showers. Mrs. Vernon Wagner and Mrs. -Kenneth Miller, aunts of the bride, held a shower at Mrs. ,Miller's home in Goderich for friends and relatives of =-th-e-bride. Mrs. Susan Jerry held a shower at her home at RR2 Goderich for friends and relatives of the groom. Mrs. Carol Young.held a shower at her home in Auburn for friends of the bride. and Miss Darlene Sheremet and Miss Anita Gaindt of Hamilton also held a shower for friends of the bride. The wedding party was entertained following the rehearsal by the groom's parents at their home in Goderich. MR. AND MRS. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hildebrand of Seaforth and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mel Culbert of Goderich. The Reverend Ralph King officiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a long sleeved.. wedding gown featuring a high neckline, appliques of lace and matching veil. Maid of honor was Jan Orren of Mt. Clemens, Michigan, Bridesmaids were Penny Lansink of Seaforth, Linda Hackney of London and Cathy Eisler of Kitchener. Groomsman was Jim McAstocker of Mission, British Columbia. Ushers were Scott Ryan of Bayfield, Ken Wilson of Goderich and Randy Schmidt of Goderich. Following the wedding ceremony, a reception was held in the Seaforth Community Centre. After a Wedding trip to the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania, Mr. and Mrs. Culbert will reside at RR 6 Goderich. Guests present at the wedding from a distance were from Vancouver, Kitchener, London, Peterborough, Michigan and Stratford.
