Music hath charms
Mary Andrew, conductor of the 65 piece Woodlands Senior Public
School band leads the group in a medly of childrens classics as
the band performed to an attentive audience at Colborne Central
School, Friday. Andrew, a former resident of Ashfield Township
has been conducting the band for seven years. Each year the
group makes a stop in Huron County and offers concerts at grade

Historical meet attended
Over 100 persons at-
tended the annual
meeting of the Huron
County Historical Society
on Tuesday evening, May
9, held in the St. Andrew's
United Church, Kippen.,
Joe Hogan of Exeter
presided in the absence of
the president Harry
Worsell. After the
minutes and treasurer's
report • were "read and
' accepted, David
McClure, chairman of the
nominating committee
presented their slate of
officers for. 1978, which
was accepted by all
members.

Goderich, spoke to the
gathering and left
everyone favourably
impressed and proud that
Huron County Library's
headquarters has such a
complete and researched
source of information on
our past heritage. Miss
Flavell brought with her
several . rare, and local
books for our perusal. In
conclusion she stated that
they welcomed inquiries
as they have access to
most Provincial and
Federal doors and could
perhaps answer all
questions.
Mrs. Emmerson Kyle,
president of the United
Church Women, then
introduced their speaker
of the evening, Mrs. Ruth
Workman, who, with the
use ,of slides and notes
gave an interesting and
homey look into the lives
and work of Kippen and
District's first settlers
from 1850 down to present
day descendants -- and

man's studied research
will be a "best seller"
when published.
The Society's annual
bus trip has been
arranged for June 14 to
Elmira, Wellington
County Museum, Elora
and the Ontario
Agricultural Museum,
Milton. Contact Mrs.
Batkin, in Clinton for
information.
Mrs. Poth, Mern-
bership, reported an
increase in members,
proving there is an up-
swing in interest in past
history, and as a
Historical Society their
job .is to research, im-
prove and record it.
Mrs. Robert Simpson,
Hensall, and Mrs. Poth of
Bayfield have been
delegated to attend the
Society's Conference at
University of Western
Ontario this year.

mented on some of the
