Baha'is
elected
Gerry Durst, Nancy
Flynn, Jeannie Seddon
and Rene Steiner at-
tended the 30th Baha'i
National Convention in
Fredericton, New
Brunswick from May 26
to 29, as delegates from
the Huron region.
Each joined with the
other 170 delegates to
elect the new National
Spiritual Assembly of the
Baha'is of Canada, which
celebrated this year, the
30th Anniversary of its
incorporation by Act of
Parliament in 1948.
This year's members
include: Hossein Danesh
from Ottawa, Glen
Eyford and Ruth Eyford
from St. Albert, Alberta,
Michael Rochester and
Elizabeth Rochester
from St. John's,
Newfoundland, Ed
Muttart from Olds,
Alberta, Jamieson Bond
from South Mountain,
Ontario, and Douglas
Martin, Husayn Banani
from Toronto, Ontario.
Held at the same time
as the Convention, the
"Concert of Man" was
the National Spiritual
Assembly's gift •to the
people of Fredericton for
their hospitality onthe
occasion of its 3011th an-
niversary. Three per-
formances featured
Acadian -born Marie-
Paule Martin, one of this
year's du Maurier
competition- winners;
Gordi Munro from
Halifax; Ballet Shayda
from Ottawa, and Nancy
Ward from Saskatoon.
Besides being talented
entertainer's, the per-
formers represented, in
themselves, -a measure of
the diversity of humanity
that it was the purpose of
the "Concert of Man" to
salute.
At the very heart of the
Baha'i Faith lies, an
unshakable belief in the
oneness of mankind, and
the living of a life based
on an appreciation of the
differences among us. To
demonstrate that a
unified community, made
up of people from every
racial, cultural,
economic or religious
background is practical,
and to provide both the
spirit and structure for its
establishment, is the
animating purpose of the
Baha'i Faith.

Witness speaks on love
"How pleasant it is to
have friendly, warm'and
helpful neighbours. They
make a dark day a little
brighter and a good day
even more enjoyable. But
how many of us are good
neighbours?" asked Mr.,
Ralph Brodie, spokesman
for Jehovah's Witnesses
of the Goderich area.
"Warm greetings, acts
of courtesy and con-
sideration are high on the
list of today's scarcities.
People in many places
note a growing lack of
concern for others," he
observed.
Mr. Brodie added that
one factor strongly af-
fecting human relations
is our modern society.
The system works
against the spirit of
generosity, he said. It
tends to make us in-
sensitive and selfish.
