Victoria P.S. kids
write about tour
The members of Mrs.
Hesk's Grade 6 class at
Victoria Public School
visited the Signal -Star
plant last week and have
sent some letters to John
Buchanan, General
Manager, P-rinting
Division.
Mr. Buchanan is a good
friend of Cnptaln Cornet,
so he passed' the letters
along. Here are some of
the letters. The Captain
hopes you will enjoy
them.
Dear Mi . Buchanan,
I- thought going there
was very thrilling and
exciting. I found out most
of my questions in the
press room. It seems
funny why machines
can't. read letters, and
has to read dots. Thanks
for Petting us tour the
Signal -Star.
Yours truly,
Bobby Barraclough.
Dear Mr. Buchanan,
I enjoyed the visit at
the Signal -Star last week.
If I could go there again I
would like to have you
take me through. I en-
joyed it alot. and I know
everybody did.
P.S. - I was going to be
a paper boy but I'm not
up till 8:00 each morning.
Sincerely yours,
John Dobie. •
Dear Mr. Buchanan,
Thank you for showing
us around the Signal -
Star.
When we were in the
dark room with the red
lights it looked like a
disco.. I never saw people
work so fast.
We really liked our trip.
It was a nice place, to
visit.
My best part was in the
dark room. The machines
were interesting.
It was the best trip of
all.
Sincerely,
Pam Meriam,
Dear Mr. Buchanan,
Thank you for taking us
through the Signal -Star.
I've learned things about
making a newspaper that
I never thought you would
have to.
I guess you people put
in a lot of hours. I enjoyed
looking through all of it.
The best part I thought
was when you were
producing a negative,
then you put it on a piece
of aluminum. I just
wanted you to know how
much I enjoyed the
Signal -Star.
Sincerely yours,
Shelley Hamilton.
Dear Mr. Buhanan,
I would like to thank
you for letting us go
through the Signal -Star.
And I'' would like to
work there someday. I
would like to take pic-
tures and tell what they
are doing or even work in
the department where the
press man works.
Well that's enough
about me and what I want
'to do. NI like to go
through the Signal -Star
again and meet all the
people who work there..
Yours truly,
David Smith.
. Dear Mr: Bt'ichanan,
I am grateful to you for
showing us around in the
Signal -Star. The most
interesting thing is how
you print the paper.
It° was amazing ho47
you could print 18,000
papers an hour. The press
man and the printer,
probably has the hardest
job.
Thanks for letting, us
tour through the Signal -
Star.
Sincerely,
Michael Dalton.
Dear Mr. Buchanan,
I really enjoyed the
tour through the Signal -
Star. Sometimes I
couldn't see, but what I
did see, I liked.'
I would like to work
there some day because it
is exciting and there is
always something going
on. If I worked there I
would always be caught
up in the news.
But you do understand I
would work for my father
before I would work for
you. '
Well I really enjoyed
the tour and I hope I come
back again.
Sincerely yours,
Bobby Jo Moxam.
Dear Mr. Buchanan,
I really enjoyed my trip
through the Signal -Star. I
found it very interesting.
1 never knew it took so
much time to work to
create the newspapers.
I think the way you
have the key punch and
be able to read it is really
incredible.
The most interesting of
all things is the way when
the negative is put in acid
and you can actually see
the words appear.

Dear Mr. Buchanan,
I thank you for the tour
you gave us of, the Signal -
Star. It was very kind of
you to arrange a time for
us to come. I think the
best part of the tour was
when we were in the
darkroom and you
showed us how you
develop the negative.
I also like the machine
that shot the plastic on
the papers.
P.S. Someday I!'hope
to be a photographer for
your newspaper.
Sincerely,
Cary Ross.
Dear Mr. Buchanan,
I enjoyed the tour very
much and I hope to be a
photographer° for the
army.
You have given me
some ideas how to put it
on a piece of paper.
Now every time I look
at a paper I know how
much work goes into it:
Thank you.
Yours truly, A.
Terry ,Erb.
Dear Mr. Buchanan,
I found the Signall:Star
most interesting. The
thing I liked the best was
watching the papets
being printed and how
they put the paper on the
machines.
I never knew before
that just one page would
cost so much or that you
could make 18,000 papers
in just one hour.
Well I really enjoyed
going through the Signal -
Star and I hope I can visit
it again sometime.
Yours truly,
Kinl McGuire.
