Where are We in Community ac- tion," was the theme off the 78th District Annual of the Huron -West Women's Institutes held last Monday in the Nile United Church, Colborne Township with the Tiger Dunlop Branch as hostesses. Mrs. Allan Stoll was in charge of registration and Mrs. Gordon Kaitting was in charge of dinner tickets. Mrs. Graham McNee of Dungannon was in charge off the two sessions which opened with the Ode, the Mary Stewart Collect and O Canada with Mrs. Len Reed as organist. Mrs. Earl Sherwood wo Tiger Dunlop Branch welcomed the 94 delegates and members and Mrs. Richard Buchanan read the minutes and gave the financial report. She reported that the Branches had receipts of $.24626.13. Mrs. Donald Riehl of Goderich gave the auditors- report and Mrs,' McNee gave her report. She thanked all 12 Branches for their support and co-operation during the past year. Londesboro Branch presented a short skit, Fault Finding, with Mrs. Tom Duizer, Mrs. Lorne' Hunking and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook a's the actors. Miss Grace Bird, Huron County Home Economist' ratified the District Directors. They were: Mrs. Tom Haggitt of Auburn., Mrs. John Anderson of Belgrave, Mrs. Luella McGowan of Blyth, Mrs.. Cecil Elliott, of Clinton, Mary Holmes of Goderich, Mrs. Elmer Black of Dungannon, Mrs. Stanley Mcllwain of Goderich Township, Mrs. Bert . Shobbrook of Londesboro; Mrs. Mabel Jacklin of Maitland, Mrs. Peter Chandler of St. Helens, Mrs. Earl Sherwood of Tiger Dunlop, and Mrs. Mrs. Alf. Lockeridge of Wingham. MiSs Wendy Whitmore spoke for the 1978 Ontario Youth Employment Program and the Pennies for Friendship presen- tation was in the charge of Mrs. Norman Coultes and Mrs. Ross Higgins of the Belgrave Branch. An impressive chart. was displayed showing a tree with roots each representing the Branch and going up the truck showing the support of the projects in nutrition etc. throughout the Asia and Africa continents. The treasurers presented their pennies which came to over $200. Those treasurers presenting were Mrs. Robert Peck, Auburn, Mrs.. 'Jas. Hunter, Belgrave, Mrs. Bill Hull, Blyth, Mrs. Leona Lockhart, Clinton, Mrs. Winnifred Girvin, Dungannon, Mrs. Donald Riehl, Goderich, Mrs. William Porter, Goderich Township, Mrs. Erie Anderson, Londesboro, Mrs. Fiano McDougall, Maitland, Mrs. Jas. Aitcheson, St. Helens, Mrs. Allan ,Stoll, Tiger Dunlop and Mrs. William... Powell, Wingham. Mrs. William Porter, federation representative of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario gave her report of the activities throughout the province and Canada, showing an increase in support at all levels, a very en- couraging report. Miss Grace Bird,.home economist reported on the 4-14 .work and also the senior .program. She stated that the ' senior project would be needlepoint when six different stitches will be taught. Mrs. Irene Young, Goderich introduced the guest speake'rr, Mrs: Clayton Edward of Goderich, who spoke ort the theme -Women! She urges women to speak up and write to the members of parliament if they have ' a beef. The collection was received by St. Helens Branch and' reports were given by the delegates attending the Officers' Conference at University of Waterloo. Mrs. Celia Taylor gave the report of the curator and Mrs. Norman Coultes gave the•public relations officer's report for the district. Mrs. Cecil Elliott, Clinton reported for Agriculture and Canadian Industries, Mrs. Leslie Jacklin, Wingham for Citizenship and World Affairs, Mrs. Margaret Taylor, Lon- desboro for Education and Cultural Activities, Biss Luella McGowan lyth read by Mrs. Keith Webster,,Blyth for Family and Consumers' Affairs, and Mrs. Tom Haggitt Auburn for resolutions. Mrs. Ann Mcichol of Blyth spoke d'n the Huronview Auxiliary thanking all Branches for CO co-operating with the Auxiliary and helping in many ways. Anyone with old Home and Country magazines, please give them to your president or PRO to give out at this booth. It was decided to again sponsor a Korean child and a $10 gift be made or purchased for the gift stall at the FWIC con- vention in Saskatoon in 1979. Mrs. Graham McNee and Mrs. Richard Buchanan were named delegates to the County Rally to be held at Londesboro, the first Monday in October. A silent auction was held in the charge of Mrs. Bert McCreath, Mrs. Stanley Mcllwain and Mrs. William Porter off Goderich Township Branch. Mrs. William Powell of Wingham extended the courtesies and Mrs. Bert McCreath invited the District to hold it's an- nual meeting in 1979 at Holmesville with Goderich Township Branch as hostesses. Miss Grace Bird presided for the election of officers. Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock presented the slate prepared by the nominating committee which were accepted.
