Sp�rtsage Maitland golfer qualifies for Oitktrio amateur Forty-six men played on Men's Night, May 29. Winners for the night were: Mark Matthews, low net 30; Ross Pat- terson, Bob McDougall and Gerald Morgan, 31; John Schneiker, 32 and Larry McDougall, 321/2. The first men's interclub was held at Walkerton, June 4, .with Izzy Bedard of Maitland winning low gross for the day. Shelagh Sully took first flight honours for Ladies' Night, May 30, when 29 ladies turned out to play. Della Bedard had the fewest putts in this flight. Second flight winners were Verna Jackson, Verna Kane, and putts Jean Papernick. Third flight winners were Verne Frith, Carol Hunter, and putts Bud Elliott. Fourth flight - low gross was Laurie Banter, low net Marilyn James, Martina Schneiker, and putts Joanne Jasper. 11 Closest to the pin on number 1 was Maxine Martin. The first of three ladies' interclubs was held May 30, at the Maitland course. Eight ladies from each of three clubs - Kincardine, Sunset and Maitland played 18 holes for prizes and points. Here are a few dates for you lady golfers to remember: June 10, Spring Fling; June 13, Meaford invitational; June 14 - a preview of ladies' golf outfits, at the Club House.. Local competitions will soon be under way, sign up for those you are interested in. Congratulations to Paul Johnson, who placed third at New Dundee, thus qualifying for the Ontario Amateur, to be held July 11 - 14 at Weston Golf and Country Club, Best of luck, Paul! The Lions Club Referees' Tour- nament was our first tournament of the year and was held on June 4. Low gross for the day was Jim Fitzmorris and low net was Bob Young. May 30 proved ..o be an excellent night for golf as there was a large turnout for Men's Night. instead of conventional play, the men participated in Fun Night in which they are only allowed to use three clubs. Low gross for the night was Brian Reeve and low net was Raye Armstrong. Congratulations Brian and Raye! First flight winners were: Gerry Mero, Leroy Bedour, Bob Greer, Mark Lassali.ne and Paul Baechler; second flight, Vic Powell, Randy Miller, Ed Harrison, Dave Graf and Stan Telford; third flight, Greg .Beacom, Steve Palmer, Mel Bogie, Cliff Kennedy and Walter Sheardow n. Ladies' Night on Thursday June 1 was also well attended. Winners included: low, gross, Sue MacAdam and low net, Shirley Baechler; first flight, Adele Drennan; second flight, Ellen Connelly, Grace Sale and Karen Scott; third flight, Twenty-three skaters started and 16 finished a 12 hour roll-a-thon sponsored on Saturday, May 6 by the Goderich Recreation and Community Centre Board. The roll-a-thon has raised over $650 for the Community Centre Renovation Project so far. These eight Skaters won cash awards for bringing in the most individual money with their roller • skating efforts. McGees jumped on. losing ""•pitcher Des Courtney for 14 hits over seven • innings as they moved into a first place tie in the, Maitland - Division with Little Bowl and Fisher. The teams are tied with eight points. Despite the potent offence that produced 14 hits, McGees were only able to strike for five runs. They opened the scoring in the game with two runs in the second inning and added single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh inning. Rick Sowerby and John Phillips led the McGee offence with three, hits apiece. Phillips and team-mate Ron Sowerby each scored two runs. Doug Spitzig chipped in with two hits in four trips to the plate. Gords nailed winning pitcher Rick Sowerby for seven hits in the game and scored single runs in the fifth and sixth in- nings. Seven players 'Stoddart who raised $69.40 for a $25 award, Trevor Martin who raised $37.20 I1or a $5 award and Trevor Kelly who raised $52.50 for a $10 award.
