opening game
The Goderich Bantam
Boys baseball team
initiated their season in
fine fashion as they
dumped Dashwood 6-1 in
the opening game of the
WOAA schedule last
Thursday.
Dashwood scored a run
in the top of the first
inning and held a 1-0 lead
after two innings of play.
The Goderich offence
came to life in the third
inning scoring two runs
as Adams and Gosse
reached home on errors.
Goderich added two more
runs in the fourth inning
and closed the scoring
with two more runs in the
bottom of the sixth.
The bantams played
their second game of the
season against Seaforth,
Tuesday.
The team, coached and
managed by Harry
Worsell and Howard
Carroll, has also added
several peewee age
players to its roster, to
give those youngsters a
chance to play ball this
summer. There is no
active peewee team this
year.
The bantams return to
action tomorrow night
(June 9) with a 7 p.m.
contest in Exeter and
their next home game is
Thursday, June 15,
against Exeter at 6:30
p.m.
Bantam girls
win threegames
The Goderich Bantam
, girls softball team is off
to a fast in their WOAA
league schedule winning
three of their first five
games.
The Bantam girls
handed Kinkora two`
losses in their first starts
of the season, 7-6 and 15-8
before they were beaten
by St: Marys, 7-0 in St.
Marys last Thursday.'
But the bantams
rebounded from the
shutout and tied Mitchell
7-7 in Goderich Sunday
and then defeated the
Mitchell. girls in a return
match, 12-4 in a game in
Mitchell Monday. '
Goderich won a thriller
in their_first game of the
year scoring a run in the
bottom of the seventh
inning, „ite-edge -Kinkora
7-6.
Goderich trailed 3-1
before they struck for
four runs in the fifth
inning to, take a 5-3 lead.
They added another run
in the sixth inning to
increase their lead to 6-3
heading into the final
frame.
But Kinkora rallied for
three runs on three
Goderich errors and tied
the' game as Goderich
headefl,,into their final at
bat. Teresa Donnelly took
the steam out of the
Kinkora comeback as she
lead off the final inning
with a triple and scored
the winning run as
Theresa Osborn hit into a
fielder's choice.
Goderich easily won
the rematch in Kinkora
scoring eight runs in the
fourth inning, five in the
fifth and adding two in,
the seventh. Tracy Jewell
went the distance on the
mound in both victories.
Goderich's winning
streak was halted at two
,games June 1 as a hot St.
Marys pitcher hurled a
no-hitter in beating
Goderich 7-0.
Goderich rebounded
,from„the loss with a win
and a tie in a home and
home series with Mit-
chell.
Mitchell was fortunate
to gain a tie in the first
game as Goderich held a
7-5 lead heading into the
final inning. Mitchell
rallied for two runs in
their final at bat to tie the
game before Jewell
retired the side.
Goderich got revenge
Monday as they hani-
mered'Mitchell 124. The
bantams spotted Mitchell
a 3-2 lead after one inning
of play before they ex-
ploded for five runs in the
fourth inning on the
strength of back to back
homers by Jewell and
Teresa Donnelly.
They added two more
runs in the fifth inning
and three in the sixth.
After the first inning
Mitchell was limited to a
single run in the seventh
inning.
Robin MacDonald 'was
the top batter in both
games with two hits.
Theresa Osborn also had
two hits in the second
game.
The girls return to
action ,Sunday June 11 in
Goderich against
Shakespeare. Game time
is 1 pm. and on June 13,
Clinton will provide the
opposition at 7 pm.
Motocross event
Sunday, June 11, is the
date. of the next big
motocross event at Hully
Gully. The word is
rapidly spreading that
motocross is a super
spectator sport, and
crowds are growing
steadily larger and larger
as more and more people
tell their friends.

Two teams undefeated
in rnens slowpitch play
Only two teams remain
undefeated in the 10 -team
men's slowpitch league
-after two weeks of play.
The Firemen and
Beavers each won their
only game last week and
remain tied for top spot
with six points on the
strength of three vic-
tories.
The Orphans were the
victims of the top teams
as the Beavers defeated
them 10-7 and the
Firemen handed them
their second loss of the
week with a 14-8 victory.
Bethel and the Signal -
Star Leafs kept pace as
both teams won their
third ,game of the season

The Leafs improved

Denomme lost their two
games to the Leafs and
1863 while the Park
dropped a pair to Bethel.
The Orphans won one
game this week defeating
the Coyotes 7-5 before
losing to the Beavers and
Firemen.
The Coyotes avenged
their loss to the Orphans
with a 9-3 victory over the
Champions, Sunday.
The Champions are
winless in four games
after losing both league
games this week, to the
Leafs and Coyotes.
