remain on top in standings
Doherty sparks Company
BY DAVE SYKES Q
Veteran Stan Doherty
made an auspicious debut
with the youthful Canada
Company last week, after
a year layoff and his
presence inspired the
team to three victories
and sole possession of
first place in the Dunlop
Division.
Doherty, who did not
play industrial ball last
year, was picked up in the
player draft by Canada
Company earlier this
'year. And the acquisition
has already paid
dividends for Canada
Company.
Doherty pitched 10
innings in the three
games, giving up only six
hits and chipped in with
Goderich Bantam pitcher Tracy Jewell pitched a
fine game and led her team to a 7-6 victory over
Kinkora in a league game at Agriculture Park,

Elevators gain
two victories
The Goderich
Elevators humiliated the
Clinton Cardinals with a
31-0 victory in Huron
Central Ladies softball
league action, Monday.
The Elevators struck
for 13 runs in the first
inning and didn't look
back as they added 18
more runs to that total
over the final six innings
for the win.
The Elevators took
advantage of several
walks issued by the op-
posing pitcher while Sue
Kolkman and Karen
McKinnon hit home runs.
Linda Miller and Karen
Pond scored five runs
each for the winners.
The Elevators racked
up their second win of the
week as they scored 10
runs in the first inning
and coasted to an 11-7
victory over the Goderich
Superstars.
The Superstars opened
the scoring with a single
run in the top half of the
first inning before the
Elevators went on a 10 -
run binge while batting
through the order.
The Superstars chipped
away at the Elevators'
lead scoring a single run
in the second inning and
they added five in the
sixth inning but were
retired in order in their
final at bat.
Karen Miller scored the
final Elevators' run in the
fourth inning.

capitalized on eight
French errors, and two -

Company lead with a
two -run homer in the
fourth inning that scored

Durst scored the final

through the first five
innings as Tigert held
them to two hits. They

the sixth inning on a
George Sutton solo home
run, his third of the
season and Sutton was
responsible for their

Fisher Custom
Builders had a rough
week in Industrial
League action This week
dropping two of three
league games.
Fisher was unbeaten in
their first two starts and
managed to salvage the
week's play with an 8-7
victory over Little Bowl
after losing to Canada
Company and Graham
Electric.
The win was the third of
the season for Fisher
against two losses and
leaves them tied for first
place in the Maitland
Division with Little Bowl
and McGees Pontiacs
with six points. Both
McGees and Little Bowl
have a game in hand over
Fisher.
Graham Electric
scored three runs in both
the second and third
innings and withstood a
late Fisher rally as they
chalked up their first
victory of the season.
Fisher had opened the
scoring en the game with
an unearned run in the
first inning but after the
Grisham rally they
trailed 6-1 after five in-
nings of play. They
rebounded for two runs in
the sixth inning and
narrowly missed forcing
extra innings with two
runs in the seventh in-
ning. But their rally fell
short -and the Electrics
racked up their first win
in four games.
Graham Electric
nailed two Fisher pit-
chers, Doug Fisher and
Fred Pellow, for 11 hits in
the game and ironically
all those hits came in the
run producing second and
third innings. They had
no hits over the other five
innings.
John Verway, Steve
Haggitt, John Hoy and
Fred Schoemaker had
two hits each for
Graham. .. Verway and
Haggitt also scored two
runs.
Fisher managed eight
hits off winning pitcher
Verway, four of them in
the two -run sixth inning.
Bob McBride and John
Hoy led the Fisher of-
fense with two hits apiece
while four other players
added one hit each.
In their only victory of
the week, Fishers ex-
ploded for six runs in the
bottom of the sixth inning
on six hits and overcame
a 4-2 deficit en route to an
8-7 win.
Fisher scored single
runs in the third and
fourth innings to take a 2-
0 lead and held that lead
until the top of the sixth
when Little Bowl nailed
Doug Fisher for four runs
on four hits.
Trailing 4-2 Fisher
rallied for six runs in
their half of the sixth
inning on six hits to take a
8-4 lead into the final
inning. They almost
booted that lead as Little
Bowl fought back with
three runs in the seventh
before they relinquished
the final out.
Dave Patterson hit a
two -run, two -out homer in
the seventh to narrow the
Fisher lead to a single
run after Glen Falkiner
had scored. But Fisher
managed to get Ken
Doherty on a ground out
to end the game.
Dennis Lebrun, Jack
McKinnon and Jim Bell
led Fishers' attack with
two' hits apiece. One of
Lebrun's hits was a
homer in the sixth inning
and Bell chipped in with a
triple and a double in
three trips to the plate.
McKinnon and Lebrun
also scored two runs
each.
Falkiner was the top
Little Bowl batsman with
three hits in four times at
bat while team-mates .
Allen and Doherty added
two hits apiece.
Doug Fisher went the
distance in the victory
giving up 10 hits and
striking out six batters.
Terry Powell worked five
innings for Little Bowl
and gave up two runs on
three its.
Fisher returns to action
tonight against Gord's
Sports at 8:45 p.m. while
