A headline on the en-
tertainment page of last
Friday's London Free
Press read: Actors have
played around, now
they're going to jail. And
the dateline was
GODERICH! Some fast
reading revealed that the
head simply meant the
Goderich Little Theatre
Group would be per-
forming six productions
this summer in the yard
of the Huron Historic
Gaol. Phew!
The committee which
operates the Huron
Historic Gaol has ap-
proved a proposal from
GLT to Perform their _
plays in the jail yard and
jail curator Harry
Bosnell says the group
draws a full house
wherever they play.
The names of the plays
have yet to be announced
but watch, this paper
closely for GLT's sum-
mer plans. GLT is one
amateur troupe which is
busy all year round and
Goderich citizens benefit
from this activity.

Ontario winners of the
Award of Merit --one of
the highest awards for
voluntary climatological
observers --were an-
nounced recently. In
order to qualify for these
awards observers must
have had a minimum of
20 continous years of
satisfactory service. The
weather records for one
of the selected stations
(Mr. and Mrs. Norman
Baird of Brucefield),
extends back to 1903 and
covers three generations
of the Baird family.
There are currently 350
voluntary climatological
observers in the Ontario
Region who take twice-
daily readings of tern-
perature extremes and -or
precipitation amounts.
These records are for-
warded to Regional
Headquarters in Toronto
at the end of each month
for publication. Th'e
derived data from these
observations form the
basis of climatological
statistics which are used
in support of commerce,
industry and agriculture
throughout Ontario.
