June 2 at 8 p.m. at the Lucknow Centre, Campbell Street (next to the Sentinel office) and again on June 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Goderich Public Library, 52 Montreal Street. Guest speakers have been in- vited to these workshops to discuss types of stoves, their installation, fire safety and woodlot management. Everyone is welcome to attend. +++ A headline on the en- tertainment page of last Friday's London Free Press read: Actors have played around, now they're going to jail. And the dateline was GODERICH! Some fast reading revealed that the head simply meant the Goderich Little Theatre Group would be per- forming six productions this summer in the yard of the Huron Historic Gaol. Phew! The committee which operates the Huron Historic Gaol has ap- proved a proposal from GLT to Perform their _ plays in the jail yard and jail curator Harry Bosnell says the group draws a full house wherever they play. The names of the plays have yet to be announced but watch, this paper closely for GLT's sum- mer plans. A $1,000 grand prize will be awarded in the Poetry competition sponsored by the World of Civic Corner Monday, June 5 the Huron County Board of Education holds its June session at 1:00 p.m. at its Clinton administrative office. Monday, June 5 Goderich town council meets at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at town hall. Tuesday, June 6 Planning Board meets at 7:15 p.m. in the council chambers at town hall. Tuesday, June 6 the Committee of Adjust- ment meets at 7:00 p.m. in the mayor's office at town hall., Wednesday, . The new definitive stamps con- tinue the theme of the environment and depict three typical Canadian street scenes and a wild flower, the Jewelweed. The street scenes carry 50, 75 and 80 cent values and picture scenes typical of a prairie town, a large metropolitan city in central Canada and a village on a seacoast. The 50 and 75 cent stamps will mainlybe used for parcels anda 80 cent for special delivery service. R. 2 Auburn, receive an Honors Bachel r of Science (Physics degree in convocation ceremonies held May 26 at the University of Waterloo. / ++ A Go'derich woman report d to the Signal - Star on Monday that she, her/two daughters and thrgrandchildren had seen a shark in the water at St. Christopher's Beach in Goderich on Sunday evening between 8 and 8:30 p.m. A check with the- town police showed that no one else had reported seeing a shark and Chief King said it would be impossible for a shark to live in our fresh water. It has been suggested that the "shark" seen was Sunday, June 4th 8:00 p.m. HEAR: Rev. In order to qualify for these awards observers must have had a minimum of 20 continous years of satisfactory service. The weather records for one of the selected stations (Mr. and Mrs. Norman Baird of Brucefield), extends back to 1903 and covers three generations of the Baird family. There are currently 350 voluntary climatological observers in the Ontario Region who take twice- daily readings of tern- perature extremes and -or precipitation amounts. These records are for- warded to Regional Headquarters in Toronto at the end of each month for publication. Th'e derived data from these observations form the basis of climatological statistics which are used in support of commerce, industry and agriculture throughout Ontario. +++ Studies aimed at helping community arenas meet expenses 'in the face of higher energy costs were announced_ recently by Energy Minister, Reuben Baetz and Minister of Culture and Recreation, Robert Welch. The studies will in- vestigate ways o reducing energy co sumption and costs in existing arenas a : in new constructsin response to sug:estions from the 400 -member Ontario / Arenas Association. The total pnergy bill for a community arena is estimated to average between $25,000 and $30,00 a year.
