and practical meet
Living room, playroom,
neat room, chaos!—that
seems to be the general pat-
tern for today's home layout.
This separation does have
its advantages, keeping one
room spotless (almost to the'
point of being untouchable!)
for entertaining guests while
the family hides away and re-
laxes day-to-day in the mid-
dle of toys, projects, and
Rover's bones.
It's not such a bad idea, in
essence, but what if you'd
like to entertain your guests
on a more informal, relaxed
basis—and still get away
from the clutter of the "rec
room wreck" for a more
pleasant environment?
Accent with plants, a few
pretty wall hangings, bam-
boo lamp and tables for cof-
fee and cookies and you have
the perfect blend of pretty
and practical in a home
entertainment area—a place
where your guests can feel as
relaxed as the rest of the fam-
ily, yet a place still attractive
enough to make everyone
feel just a little bit special!
The theme is comfort,
function and multi-purpose
use, blending easy-going ac-
cents with attractive styling
for a room that families and
their guests can always
enjoy.
Decorative and yet practi-
cal, all elements in the "Fun
Room" can be easily built or
self -installed..
Easy to build seating plat-
forms form a conversation/
play area. Built-in wall units
house everything from books
to a TV, radio, stereo and
film equipment.
The walls of the "Fun
Room" are covered in easy -
to -care -for linen in a soft,
soothing beige.
Don't stoop. to conquer
Give kitchen a lift
with new heights!
Give your kitchen a literal
lift. Why stoop and bend
when you can raise the con-
venience of owning a dish-
washer to new heights.
The dishwasher in this
"top of the line" kitchen has
been elevated 18 -inches off
the floor for easier loading
and unloading—an idea that
can be translated into a
number of different loca-
tions.
For added convenien e,(
there's a roll around appli-
ance cart that pulls out of the
cabinet next to the dining ta-
ble. It's equipped with a
warming tray on the top sur-
face and adjustable shelves
to store all the small appli-
ances needed to make kit-
chen chores as simple as pos-
sible.
The cart features its own
strip outlet—you just plug
the one cord on the cart into
the wall, then plug the
appliances' into the power
strip for use.
Dish storage has been lo-
cated in the pull-out section
of the cabinet above the cart.
Again, shelves are adjustable
to store any size dinnerware
or serving pieces.
And the sink is located
where it will be most conve-
nient. The alcove housing the
sink is Tined with paneling, -
made attractive with a wall
hung shelf for decorative ac-
cessories and given light
from a,skylight panel.
AN UNUSUAL INSTALLATION of this dish-
washer, raising it 18 inches off the floor, means that
loading dishes and pots and panswill be easier and
more convenient than if the appliance was built into
base kitchen cabinetry in a conventional manner.
Make your workroom workable!
Spring is the perfect time
to make minor household re-
pairs, so why not save some
money this season and do
them yourself? But before
you get started, tackle the job
of getting your workroom in
order. Whether starting from
scratch or re -arranging estab-
lished space, a clean open
work area not only makes re-
pair jobs easier, but can also
help eliminate needless acci-
dents.
Here are some ways you
can make your workshop
more functional:
Save empty jars and cans.
When they are clearly
labeled and arranged on
shelves or in cabinets, glass
jars allow you to quickly spot
easily misplaced small items,
such as nails, tacks, and
screws. You might want to
nail the jar lids into a shelf
board or low beam to keep
them handily at your finger-
tips.
Empty coffee cans and
other tins make perfect hol-
ders for small tools, such as
an assortment of wrenchesor
screw drivers. Label the tins
according to contents so you
can quickly locate these
often -used tools when
they're needed.
Basic tools fall into five
main classifications:•cutting,
gripping, measuring, fasten-
ing and striking. A mounted
peg board with S -hooks can
be used to keep many of the
larger tools stored safely and
neatly. Remember to hang
the board in a convenient
spot, yet out of children's
Page S
reach to avoid injury to curi-
ous hands.
A clean workroom can be
safer to work in; soil can ob-
scure your view when you're
doing exacting chores. You
can make grimy floors, walls,
and other washable surfaces
"sparkle" by -scrubbing them
down with a solution of
Janitor In A Drum® all pur-
pose cleaner and water.
Don't think your work area
must be neglected because
it's tucked away in the base-
ment or garage.
Recycle old bookcases and
cabinets'into storage units for
holding cans of paint and
varnish, brushes and other
hardware that might other-
wise clutter up your work-
shop.

& equipment. Do it yourself and rent
