St. Augustine Roman
Catholic Church, St.
Augustine was filled to
capacity on Sunday morning
May 14 at the 10 a.m. Mass
when Grade 2 children of the
combined parishes of St.
Augustine, Lucknow and
Kingsbridge made their First
Holy Communion, in a group
under the guidance of
religious instructor, Mrs.
Barbara Eedy and Principal
David ,Zyluk. Reverend
Father Ed Dentinger, C.R.
officiated.
Readings were done by
Mrs. Eedy, Maureen
Kingsbridge

Theresa Courtney,
correspondent, 529-7189
Stapleton and Colleen
VanOsch. Certificates were
presented to the children by
Father Dentinger, rosaries
and cards by Mrs.Emma
Franken, St. Augustine
Catholic Womens League;
Mrs. Gertrude Leddy,
Lucknow, St. Mary's Catholic
Women's League; and Mrs.
Betty VanOsch,
Kingsbraidge, St. Joseph's
Catholic Women's League.

Mrs. Michael Courtney on the
birth of a baby boy six pounds
13 ounces on Mother's Day,
May 14 in the Wingham and
District General Hospital.

and Mrs. Joe Courtney at-
tended the 58th Annual
Diocesan Catholic Women's
League convention held at
Brescia Hall, University of
Western Ontario, London on
Tuesday, May 9. The theme of
the convention was "The
Family, The Church of The
Home."
Congratulations to Ray
Hogan, RJR. 3, Lucknow who
was the lucky winner of $1,000
in the Community Centre
Lottery held on Wednesday,
May 10.
Patrick Francis
Dougherty, Lapeer, Michigan
visited on Sunday, May 14
with his Courtney relatives
here. A Courtney family
gathering was held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Con_
Hogan. Following a delicious
smorgasbord luncheon,
discussions followed on the
history of the Courtney -
Dougherty ancestry.
Present besides Mr.
Dougherty for the occasion
were Mr.-: Leo Courtney of
Goderich; Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Courtney, Mrs. John Austin,
Mr. Frank Sullivan, Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. Ian Parker
and family of R.R. 1 Arva
spent the weekend visiting
with relatives in this area.
Miss. Mary VanRooy
returned to Vancouver on
Thursday, May 11 following a
three week vacation with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
VanRooy and family. Mary
will be returning on June 10 to
begin employment as a
Garden Club
discusses soil
This Friday, students of
grades 5 to 8 of Colborne
Central School will hear first
hand information regarding
conditions in Northern
Canada when a woman
missionary who has served in
this field will address the
students.
Mohd'ay,.May, 22 will be' a
holiday for the students.
4-H NEWS
The second meeting of the
Garden Club 4-11 Group 2 was
held on Tuesday, May 9 at the
home of Mrs. Mel Bogie. The
meeting was opened with the
Pledge given by all members

present. The Roll Call was,
"The reasons why I plan to
grow a garden", and various
answers were given.
The discussion was on
preparing the soil for your
garden, organic material and
the grading system for fer-
tilizing. The members also
discussed how to plant seeds,
transplanting and looking
after the garden. The last
part of the discussion was on
how to plant and care for
flowers.
Their next meeting will be
held in the second week in
June. The meeting closed
with the Creed which was
read by all.

will be held in Colborne
Township Hall on Thursday
May 25 at 1:45 p.m. The guest
speaker will be Miss Elaine
Townshend. Membersare

Mr. Tom Anderson of Oak-
ville, has been visiting his
sister Mrs. Worthy Fowler
and Mr. Fowler recently.{
Several residents of
Colborne have been
hospitalized recently and
many others are not^enjgying
perfect health. Their "many'
friends . miss them and
welcome their return to
better health.
The sympathy of the
corhmunity is extended to the,,
family of the late James
Horton of Goderich, for many
"ears actively engaged in
rarming in Colborne 'Town -
Registered Nurse in St.
Mary's Hospital, London on
June 11.
Mr. Vincent Austin who
was hospitalized at the
Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital, Goderich
was released on Tuesday,
May 9.
Mr. John O'Connor who has
been residing in Lucknow at
the home of his sister, Mrs.
Raymond Leddy and Mr.
Leddy for the winter months,
has returned to his home here
at Kingsbridge. Welcome
back, John.
Miss Fay Hogan of Strat-
ford and John Cusolito of
London visited on Saturday,
May 13 with Fay's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Con Hogan.
Mr. Jim Sinnett, Chief
Engineer on the "Paul H.
Townsend" is spending
holidays at his home here and
making preparations for the
up -coming marriage of
daughter Sheila to Mr.
George Nelson of Calgary,
Alberta on Saturday, May 20.
George arrived from
Calgary, Alberta on Monday,
May 1 and is presently
working in Kincardine.
George was honored on
Saturday evening, May 12
with a Stag party held at the
Bowler Summer Residence.
