Auburn canoe races go ahead despite cold weather
Despite cold, cold weather and novelty (row boat) -
last Sunday, some brave Larry Plaetzer, Ken Empey
persons took part in the canoe and Rick Archambault.

Breakfast was served while
the contestants registered by
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Robertson,
Fred Lawrence and Mr. and
Mrs. Rene Collins.
The canoe race was
arranged by Bill Sproul and
Stephen Haggitt and the loud
speaking service arranged by
Allan Craig. Over 100 people
gathered to see who had run
the races.
Winners were: advanced
amateur - Wayne Scott of
Wawa and Marc Johnson `off
Hearst; men's amateur,
Robert Shaddick and Derwin
Carter of Londesboro; family
class, Bill and Maxine Seers

Miss Sherry Plaetzer prior to
her marriage this month.
Mrs. Bob Worsell was the
chairman and the guest of
honor was escorted to the
front by Mrs. Gordon Gross
and the bride's mother, Mrs.
Lawrence Plaetzer was
escorted by Mrs. Kenneth
McDougall. -Beautiful cor-
sages were pinned on the
guests.
Helping plan the wedding
was done with the leaders-
being
eadersbeing Mrs. Fred Lawrence,
Mrs. Maurice Bean, Mrs.
Gordon Gross, Mrs. Wayne
Millian, Mrs. Barry Millian,
Mrs. Sebold Siertsima, Mrs.
Gordon Chamney, Mrs. Brian
Hallam, Mrs. Bob Worsell.
Each group planned dresses,
flowergirl wardrobe, flowers,
duets, photography, catering,
bakeries, reception and
travel agencies. Each leader
with about nine helpers
prepared their wares and
tried to sell them to Sherry
and her mother.
Spokesmen were Pat
Tyndall, Doreen McClough,
Gail Reed, Elaine Craig, Mrs.
Bill Millian, Margaret Foran,
Mrs. Donald Haines, Mrs.
W.L. Craig, Mrs. Torn Jardin,
Wanda Plaetzer, Mrs.
Charles Merrill, Mrs. Mike
Foran, Mrs. Jack Armstrong,
Mrs. Ernest Durnin, Mrs.
Emma Franken, Carol
Foran, Rosemary Foran,
Faye Seers, Mrs. Barry
Millian, Jayne Arthur and
Sharon Glousher.
Mrs. Greg Park had the
guests make out household
hints.
Mrs. Maurice Bean read an
address of congratulations to
Sherry and gifts were carried
in by Vickie Rodger, Angela
Millian, Lorie Millian, and
Glenyce McClinchey. Sherry
opened her gifts assisted by
her mother. They were
displayed on a table by Mrs.
Fred Lawrence. Miss Wanda
Plaetzer arranged the bows
on a band and placed them on
Sherry.
WAL,KERBURN CLUB
The Walkerburn Club held
their monthly Meeting at the
home of Mrs. Stewart Ball on
April 27. Mrs. Ted Hunking
opened the meeting by the
singing of 0 Canada followed
by all repeating the Lord's
prayer.
The minutes were read by
Mrs. Tom Cunningham and
accepted as read on motion of
Mrs. Garth McClinchey. The
financial statement was
given by the treasurer, Mrs.
Garth McClinchey. She
reported the support of the
foster child paid up to the end
of July. The roll call was
answered by a donation to the
foster child.
The draw prize donated by
Mrs. Roy Daer was won by
Mrs. Leonard Archambault.
Plans were made for the
next meeting to be held at the
home of Mrs. Garth
McClinchey with a
miscellaneous sale being
held. The program is to be in
the charge of Mrs. Ted
Hunking and Mrs. Tom
Cunningham and Mrs. Garth
McClinchey and Mrs. Stewart
Ball will be in charge of
lunch..
Mrs. Stewart Ball gave an
interesting reading on
homemade sprays for garden
insects and where to plant
your vegetable garden.
Mrs. Garth McClinchey had
a geography contest making
everyone move.
After singing Grace, lunch
was served by Mrs. Ted
Hunking, Mrs. Tom Cun-
ningham and Mrs. Stewart
Ball, the hostess.

the home of Mrs, Tom Cun-
ningham. Annette Losereit,
the president was in charge
and opened with the 4-H
pledge. The roll' call was
answered by all members
telling why they planned to
grow a garden.
A discussion took place on
ways the soil should be
prepared for planting. The
right way to plant and
transplant flowers and
vegetables was demon-
strated. The meeting was
closed with the 4-H creed.

The Anglican Church
Women of St. Mark's Church
met for its April meeting at
the home of Mrs. Lillian
Leatherland. The president
Mrs. Donald Cartwright was
in charge and opened the
meeting with the hymn, New
Every Morning is the Love of
God.
The scripture lesson from
Lamentations .3; 22-24 was
read by Mrs. Leatherland. All
took part in reading the
chapter from the Living
-Message and closed with the
Lord's Prayer.
The birthday hymn was,
What a Friend We Have in
Jesus.
The minutes were read by
Mrs. John Daer and approved
and Mrs. Thomas Haggitt,
the treasurer gave the
financial statement. A
discussion took place
regarding pi -ices for quilts
according to size and
finishing.
The children of the church
are going to- clean up the
church lawn.
Mrs, Cartwright thanked
the.A.C.W. for flowers sent to
Mr. Cartwright when a
patient in the hospital.
The roll call was answered
by a Bible verse containing
the word -tree.
The offering was received
and dedicated with prayer.
The meeting was closed with
the benediction. Lunch was
served by Mrs. Leatherland
assisted by Mrs. Thomas
Haggitt.
4-H NEWS
Members of Auburn I 4-H
club met at the home of Patti
and Kim McDowell for a skit
practise and social time with
pizzas and other goodies.
Sharon .Stadelmann
thanked the leaders, Mrs.
Donald Cartwright and Mrs.
John Hildebrand and on
behalf of the members
presented them with gifts.
Both leaders thanked the
girls.
