Only one ministry was willing to fund a program which means that at least two playground leaders will be hired. The programs will start on July 10 and continue to mid-August. Both playground, programs and daycamps will be offered. + ++ The Recreation Board has received funding for a sailing program this summer that will include lessons, races, Laser rentals, racing clinics, a Laser school and an annual regatta. Paul Par- sons will conduct the sailing program that will also involve Port Elgin and Kincardine. + ++ Two ringette clinics were recently held for girls interested in the sport and Recreation Director Mike Dymond plans to organize a league this fall for girls of all ages. A meeting to set up organization for the league will be held on May 17 at the Recreation office on Waterloo Street. + ++ The Goderich Recreation Board has planned three dances at the Community Centre this summer to raise money for the arena roof fund deficit. The dates of the dances are June 17, July 15 and August 5. + ++ Several local base all teams have been holding practice sessions in preparation for the 1978 season which begins in a few weeks. The Goderich Industrial Fastball league begins season play Sunday May 14 at Agriculture Park. •+±+ The Goderich Recreation Board is sponsoring a roll-a-thon at the Goderich and District Community Centre this Saturday to. raise money for the arena roof fund deficit. The roll -a -thou will begin at 9 a.m. and runs for 12 hours. Last year local roller skating enthusiasts raised $500. +++ Just a reminder that the bike-a-thon for cancer will be held in Goderich Sunday and several bikers, raising money for the local Cancer 'Society, will be making their way along a 15 kilometre route through, Goderich. The bike-a- thon begins and ends at Suncoast Mall. Starting timejis 2 p.m.' Lower Thames Race planned rarticipants can register at The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority will the starting locations from 8 be holding the seventh Annual Lower Thames Canoe Race this year on Sunday, May 28. Races will "start at twd- locations and finish at the Lighthouse Conservation Area at the mouth of the Thames River north of Tilbury. Expert, advanced, amateur and kayak races will start at the Thamesgrove Conservation Area in Chatham, just off Highway 2 East. Ladies amateur, novice, touring and VIP classes will start at the Chatham Yacht and Racing Club, on the River Road in Dover . Township, west of Chatham. a.m.; races will begin at 10 a.m. A special call goes out for first time participants, who may join in the racing from either location, or enter the non-competitive class starting at the Yacht Club. Allentrants will receive a crest: Annual and individual trophies are; awarded to winning and placing crews. This year, a draw for special• prizes will be held for all crews who do not win trophies. (photo by Dave Sykes) Goderich Signal -Star juvenile goaltender, Tony Bedard, was awarded the Phil Evans Memorial Trophy for the most improved player in the Goderich minor hockey system at the group's annual banquet. Bedard, who has played the role of backup goaltender for the juveniles the past two years, was pressed into action during the playoffs both years due to injuries to John Page.
