SCHOOL NEWS
Wednesday evening, April
19 was a special night at the
Colborne Central School when
parents and friends gathered
for the annual Open House to
visit with the teachers and
view the academic and hand
work on display in all the
classrooms.
The heralding of spring as
well as the welcoming of
viditors was evidenced along
the hallways with spring art
work. Children's work books
and displays of current topics
of study were evident in each
room and in the primary
rooms, parents located their
child's desk by means of
recognizing themselves in.
pictures drawn or painted by
the children. Each picture
was accompanied with a
story of home activities. This
was all very interesting and
sometimes had a touch of
humor.
The tgirls of Grade 6
capably served lunch to all
and the visitors were ushered
to various rooms by .the
Grade 6 boys..
After all had -viewed the
classrooms and talked to the,
Colborne
corner
Gertrude Kaitting,
correspondent, 524-2076'
teachers, they made their
way to the auditorium where
an interesting program was
presented by the students.
This included an excellent
musical presentation by 30
first and second year Grade 7
ukulele studentsdirected by
Mr. Snell. Mrs. Dustow
presented several Grade 5
students playing recorders.
Principal John Kane
chaired the evening per-
formance•after mingling with
the parents in the various
classrooms and gave a brief
history of the Percival fitness
program which has been used
daily this year throughout the
school. This was demon-
strated by nine young people
in Grade 8. Mr. Kane ex-
plained that all children,
teachers and staff have
participated in this physical
fitness program and have
taken special interest in
promoting it and carrying it
out.
This completed another
Open House at Colborne.
Central to the enjoyment of
parents, students and
teachers.

and spoke on the Goderich
pool problem and all listened
attentively and discussed the
subject of interest.
Plans were made for sof-
tball again this season with
registration for the ball
teams to take place in

onday May 15 7-9' p.m. If
you are interested, plan to
register. Rates are $2 per
child or $5 per family. Ages
are 8 to 18 years.
Swimming lessons will be
held again this summer at the
pool in Goderich. Mr. Hoernig
will be in charge of this so
watch for further notice.
The euchre card parties
will resume next winter. They
were reported a success and
were fairly well attended:
While this isn't a money
making project, it affords
amusement for many who
enjoy a good game of cards.
A new idea this year was
the weaving classes in
Colborne TownshipHall with
Mrs. Wilmer Hardy in-
structing. Ten women en-
joyed these classes and found
a new hobby. The Recreation
Committee are willing to
sponsor more ' projects like
this and if you would like to
have a class for" a hobby,
contact them and present
your proposition with full
particulars, or if you would
like to learn a hobby make it
known and they will see what
can be accomplished. This
would be for fall classes.
Business being concluded
the meeting adjourned.
