took place at St. Joseph's Hospital„
Lendoe, oa Saturday afternoon, Sept, u
17th, e1 Alvaretta Essery, wire of
Albert Hastings of Exeter. Deceas-
ed had been in the hospital nearly a
month, and was twice operated on
With the hope of effecting a cure, but
it waa wilted. otherwise. Born at Cen-
;rater on .March 31st, 1863, x daughter
of the late Mr. and 'Airs. Thos. Essery,
the deceased had all her ,life been a
resident ot Centralia and Exeter. Airs
Halting: was a most estimable wore-
an, highly esteemed and respected by
ail. She was a. consistent member of
the Presby't'erian church, active- in all
cl'ur�lt work, an earnest worker in the
Gauss~ of temperance, and long an ae-'
eve eltieers of the Woman's Institute.
Her demise is s'neerely regretted and
the sympathy of the community goes
out to the bereavedi. Biosides the
husband tied one daughter, Miss Lula,
she is survived by two brothers, Geo.
G. Essery of Centralia and Austin
Esser} os Palmerston, and one sister,
Mrs .James Oke of Centrel:a, The
funera!, which was private took place
from the- family residence, Andrew St.,
Exeter, on Monday afternoon, inter-
ment being made in Exeter caentetery.

Little Allan Fraser, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Wrn. Fraser, was struck, by an

playing on the way home from school
he dodged in front of the car and was
knocked down, sustaining a nasty cut

DR. KNIGHT DEAD.
Ur. J J. Knight of Guelph last week
received a cablegram from Cork, Ire-
land, stating that his nephew, Dr,
Wilt Knight, had died of tumor on the
brain, and that the remains were be-
ing sen: to Exeter for interment[ D.
Kni ;ht was Pie younger son of the
late. lir, and .\`1rs, F. J. Knight of Ex-
eter, and has a brother, Frank, in the
West. Dr, Knight went overseas in
the early days of the war, and served
until its close right up near the boys
in the trenches, receiving several med-
als for bravery. He continued with
