Rotary' student exchange
the chance of a lifetime
The Goderich Rotary Club
learned recently that a
student exchange program it
is sponsoring early in 1978 is
the chance of 'a lifetime for
the young students taking
part. Andres Hoyos, an 18
f year old student from
Columbia, told the Goderich
Rotary club at a luncheon
meeting recently that the
exchange programe was a
"dream come true" for him
providing an opportinity few
youth in the world get a
Achance to take advantage of.
Hoyos came to Canada a
year ago on an exchange
program sponsored 'by the
Stratford Rotary, and he was
in Goderich to describe his
adventures in the past year
and try to help Goderich
members prepare for a
student coming here on the
same program.
Goderich club members
will host a student from
Australia early in 1978 and
during the following year
(1979) will sponsor a
Goderich student on a year's
visit to a foreign country.
The Rotary program was
initiated several years ago
and when the Goderich club
members learned of it they
decided to sponsor a student
visiting here and a Goderich
student making a return visit
for a year. The prospective
students apply for the
privilege and are screened by
club members, educational
professionals and parents to
ensure that the student can
handle a year away from
Canada's education system
and a year in another
country's. The program is
designed to acquaint students
with cultures in other lands
and with life in other parts of
the world.
The project involves
