ound n'About...
e other day I was the
pkeeper" at the Venice
League. Members have
lovely shop as an outlet
heir paintings and crafts
it is very interesting.
ple are coming and going
dchatting all the time and
asashorfthrec hours for
to ladies were browsing
nd, they had spent some
looking at the exhibit
then were talking over
well every item in the
I could tell by their
sions that they knew
crafts very well and
I was involved in their
sions of the craft -
ns and their work.
one lady, I felt, I must
met before. She was a
blonde with laughing
eyes and of course a
ly smile. She just
led.
on home base was
ed and when I said
erich" she enthused, "I
aeoUSifl-near there - her
sisClinton."
'cousin' is Mabel
dleton - Mrs. Ross - and
wouldn't believe the
blance - I was sure they
sisters - but then so
cousins are greater
alikes than sisters.
ell, the conversation
y picked up when
nia Burchill Dressler of
n, Ohio, went into detail
Mabel and their
ers and Swedish
ground and their great
together.
just hope Mabel is
ing in she will be happy
ow "TUT" is well and
g fun and enjoying
minute of her trip. Do
Intouch with her Mabel
has a lot to tell you.
ay, this vivacious lady
"made my day."
use I'm not afraid to
the first smile and a
"nice day," I meet a
many very nice people.
just a twinkle in your
will bring a quick smile
urn - and after all what
of a day is it if you can't
smile revolving?
Martha Rathburn appears
weekly in The Signal -Star.
Revolving - getting in-
volved - well, that brings up
another thing - I am
becoming quite •involved"
with the shuffleboard set and
love it. Like curling, bow ling
or whatever, it is :I game of
skill, luck and laughter or
frustration - whatever you
make it - but for me it HAS to
he fun• or I wouldn't play it.
Not only fun - it has to he a
real challenge or I don't enjoy
itfor long: •
The challenge has to be an
improvement of your skill
and then you can really get
into it. And I'm getting into it.
Every evening - almost I
go down to the courts - this is
before seven o'clock. Three
games take you to eight or
eight thirty and everyone
quits. By this time it is getting
dewy and your favorite
programs are coming on the)
TV so that is that.
Early morning - from seven
on I go biking around the
park. This time is beautiful
here and I enjoy it - so you can
see I am getting lots of
exercise.
Besides that there are
meals and all the inside
"exercise" and the yard is a
real challenge too, .since we
have to put a 'planter' in front
of our "cottage" and the
vines and shrubs have to he
controlled.
At this point I'm leaving for
a "paint -in day" in Venice.
From nine thirty to four you
can paint up a storm- and I
enjoy it. This is what I call
making use of your art rooms
- not just sitting at a table for
• •
an hour and socializing for an
hour - it is WORKING for at
least four or five hours and
getting something done.
I have finally got started in
lessons on portrait painting,
but the sessions are so short
they're - frustrating - and
expensive. But then the
teaching artist has spent
many years and dollars to get
to the teaching level so you
must make the most of the
precious minutes.
I hope Elvera and Pam are
doing some painting... what
do I hear?
There are so many people
who have perhaps some small
or could be GREAT talent in
'crafty things or creating with
color on canvas.
So often this talent is
continually pushed aside
because it is just a longing -
wishfulthinking or a
"hankering" to do something
different to the regular
routine.
Early in your life when
your imagination would ha ve-
helped create beautiful things
you were too busy with house
and family to clo anything
about it, now that your family
has grown and you should
have the time for yourself you
either fritter it away or
dawdle with things that you
really don't HAVE- to do and
so just don't get to do the
things you have always said/
y'ou would LIKE to do.
And so, that TALENT is
hidden forever. You now have
a lot of frustrations and little
patience.
First thing you know you'll
he saying, "Oh, I'm too old to
do these things now." And so
it all goes down the drain and
you'll always feel guilty
because you really didn't try
or make a real effort.
DON'T let this happen. Now
is the time to get going. Oh I
know, the holidays stop you
now, but while you are
shopping for others hcw about
shopping or dropping hints
for YOU and your secret
talent?
At this time of the year
there are all kinds of things in
the stores for leisure en-

On November Sth my
husband and 1 agreed to buy
the Combination offer from
Merit Students Encyclopedia.
We were told someone from
the company would phone to
see if we still wanted them. No
one phoned and we would like
out of it. The salesman
assured us our money would
be returned, no questions
asked!
I have sent two registered
letters but as of now have
received no word.
Could you please find out
what is going on, because if
the books are' delivered I
cannot take them.
A second letter from this

"Three days after my letter to
you I received a reply and my
cheque back. Thank you very
much for your interest in the
matter, but it is now settled

I hope you will try to help
me with my problem which
concerns 0.H.I.P. and 1 really
cannot understand why. My
social worker has told me that
my d.H.I.P. premiums are all
paid for by them but now out
of the blue I get word that my
coverage has run out and that
they are not going to pay my
claim.
Can your column do
anything to straighten this
out, please?
It seems that there was
some doubt concerning the
status of our reader's O.H.I.P.
coverage, but that has now
been rectified and a cheque
has already been sent to her
doctor to cover past
professional services, so it's
nice to know that all is again in
order with our reader and
