Art Club party
held at home
BY LORNA VINCENT
The Goderich Art Club,
after a week of postponement
due to stormy weather finally
got into orbit with their an-
nual Christmas party at ,the
home of Lu and Willard Legg.
It had been planned for
MacKay Hall which was
already booked for that
evening. Consequently a
special program of musical
games geared to a large area
had to be cancelled. However,
the spirit of the party was not
dampened as Lu's place is
always a haven of warm
hospitality.
Bill Partridge, Huron
County Librarian who
sponsors the club's local art
shows was a special guest as
well as the husbands of
members.
The evening began with an
eye-popping smorgasbord of
turkey, exotic salads and a
variety of casseroles followed
by a gorgeous array of
tempting desserts.
After dinner Lu Legg an-
nounced a very special guest,
Colleen Maguire, (a true Irish
colleen), daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. John Maguire of Wilson
Ave. Colleen, a young lady of
very promising talent, sang a
series of songs which she
accompanied on her guitar,
some of them composed by
herself. She is also a prize-
winning photographer.
All the guests joined in
some lusty singing of
Christmas carols, ac-
companied on the piano by
Edwina McKee.
Barbara McWhinnie, the
retiring president of the past
two years who had performed
with great ability gave a
farewell speech. Edwina
McKee replied on behalf of
the club, tendering thanks for
a job well done. A gift was
presented to Barbara as
token of appreciation.
The list of officers for 1978
was presented as follows:
Past President, Barbara
McWhinnie; President,
Edwina McKee; assistant to
president, Gladys Ladd;
secretary, Lu Legg;
treasurer, Beulah Long: vice
president, Hallis Manske;
publicity, Lorna Vincent;
membership, Mary Howell;
studio supervisor, Mabel
Young; phoning convener,
Annie Finnigan.
Judging by the enthusiastic
social chatter afterwards,
this was another very suc-,
cessful party.
Earlier in the evening
nineteen memberships for
next year had been handed in.
The studio in MacKay Hall
will open again the second
Wednesday in January and a
general meeting for that
month will be announced
later.

on Sunday.

attended the achievement
achievement
day on Saturday at Clinton.
The club put on their
demonstration and the name
of it was A Picture on a Plate.
They portrayed this by
making an old English
fashion plum pudding and
also showed the finished
product. Congratulations to
Ann Klomps on receiving the
provincial honors.
Also congratulations are in
store for Mrs. Barbara
}jetties as this is her fifth year
as leader of the Barnesville
H club.
The next club, Focus
Living will begin in
