K1aes frustrates Sutton and teammat
by George Sutton
There is no re
frustrating a feeling for a skip
than to tv-atch his front three
curl superbly and yet lose.
Such a feeling existed for
Gt)CI teacher skip George
Sutton on the fifth night of
lndtistrial curling. The
reason for Sutton's
frustration was Ron Klages.
Kluges, long recognized as
one of the finest curlers in
Goderich, totally dominated
his counterpart and inspired
his novice teammates to

victory. The 6-5 victory
preserved the A.M.&G.
Hospital team's hold on first
place. The match was close
and exciting as teachers
Dianne Cloet, Doug Bundy
and Donna Doidge battled
hospitalites Dennis Miskie,
Peter Bergen, and Bill Duck-
worth on even terms with Ron
Kluges providing the dif-
ference and claiming a hard
fought triumph.
The Champion Plant team
rebounded from their first
defeat last week to overcome
a tough Victoria & Grey 'learn
and maintain their shared
grip on first place. Once
again the victory was a
combination of excellent
strategy and strong
sweeping. Skip Jack
Kellough's leadership, along
with the strong performances
of Glen Falkiner, Charlie
Crawford and Toni Profit,
overwhelmed the efforts of
Hugh Doggett's team. The
final score of 13 - 3 was not
indicative of the effort put
forth by the V & G team. Sue
MacKenzie, in particular,
curled well but the talents of
the Champion men proved too
much once again.
Atter a slow start, the
Kinsmen Club is beginning to
ni.ake its move. The
threesome of Bill Worsell,
Dave Cloet and Larry
McGrath curled expertly for
the first five ends and built up
a seemingly insurmountable
9-0 lead over the ~Huron
Health Unit. In the end, the
points were all needed as
Jack MacKinnon's team
demonstrated the meaning of
the famous phrase "never
say that's enough, let's have a
drink", as they stormed back
to score seven points in the
final three ends. Laurie Ginn,
Phil Paquette, and Don
Hullah all contributed to the
fine comeback attempt but
had to settle for the last word
in the famous phrase, rather
than a victory.
The Elementary TeRchers
celebrated their first victory
of the season • y' edging the
Champion Office team 6 - 2 in
a professionally played game
that saw two blank ends and
numerous skillful shots.

Cornspiel date set
Farmers are invited to a
Cornspiel at the Vanastra
Curling Club on March 22,
1978.
This fall was one of the
most frustrating in many
years for the farmers to
harvest their crop because of
the severe weather conditions
then on top of that the price of
corn hasn't been that great.
So to cheer everybody up
and get hack in the mood to
put in another Crop next
spring, the boys at Vanastra
came up with the idea of a
bonspiel for corn producers.
Feed corn elevators and
seed corn salesmen were
approached and thought it
was a good idea and agreed to
sponsor the event as long as it
was restricted to corn
producers only.
'The honspiel will he held
later on in the ' winter and
should give you farmers who
heve never thrown a stone,
curling stone that is, a chance
to get .in some practice at
your local curling rink.
