isolated ,occurrences we once
thought. There are people, in
Huron County who harm their
children. They need help;
more important,their
children need help. These
children are being denied
protection which could be
afforded them by continuance
of the child abused program.
Asin the
December 8 issue of the
Goderich Signal -Star, the
program was "started over a
yea; ago. It was aimed at
public education, iden-
tification and reporting
procedures involved in cases
of child abuse. It enables
doctors, police, teachers,
hospitals and the general
public to become aware of;
child abuse and to report
actual cases or potential that Huron County's social
problems to the-agenmy for, --4 workers would have the time
assistane '6^
From), its start in March '76
to August '77, the number of
reported cases had almost
doubled, to 32. Without the
program, many of these
probably would have gone
unreported.
Allowance of a `budget item
of $20,000 would assure us
to pursue and expand the
present program. But the
Government won't allow it.
And that makes me cross!
Yours truly
Lynda Smith
CHRISTMAS MAIL
When drear December usher's
in
Her brood of short, dark days,
And we, with yet another year
Stand at the parting of the
ways, -
Like sunlight o'er a wintry
trail
To cheer us comes the
Christmas mail.
When fir trees raise their slim
green spires
In crisp, cold northern air,
And balsam boughs within
our homes
Their spicy odours bear,
How precious, as the old year
ends,
Our fragrant memories of
friends!
What tho' the snow upon the
sill
Is blown by winter's gale,
There comes a warm glow to
our hearts
When comes the Christmas
mail, -
Each treasured word. from
friends unseen
At Yuletide keeps their
memory green.
WITH WARMEST
CHRISTMAS GREETINGS

Dear Edi or;
We a close . a pamphlet
explairti`ng the role of three
nursing organizations. These.
organizations are sometimes
confused by the public.
The prirpary function ot'the
College of Nurses is
protection of the public, i.e. in
order to practise as a
registered nurse in Ontario, a
nurse must be registered with
the College of Nurses and
hold an annual certificate of
competency. The Registered
Nurses' Association of
Ontario (RNAO) protects the
profession's interests and
integrity. The Ontario
Nurses' Association (ONA) is
the nursing union which
bargains on behalf of those
who are employed in agencies
which are certified as ONA

marriages for reasons that to
Joseph would seem foolish?
Who doesn't know children
who could benefit from a
better example set by their
parents every day of the
year?
And there's more to learn
from Joseph, too.
It takes people to support
people. Not everyone can be
in the limelight and get the
breaks. There needs to be
someone in the background,
doing the routine things.,
making the mundane
decisions, providing the
necessities of life.

SEASON.
things take a courage and a
stamina that is beyond the
strength required for special
duties. They take discipline,
the kind of discipline that
made Joseph the kind of
special man he was.

This Christmas and in the
year ahead, the world needs
more Josephs .... more people
who stick to their guns about
the things that really matter,
just going about the day to
day business of getting the
necessary and important
things done. We need people
who will love when it is dif-
ficult to love; who will give
when it means sacrifice; who
will care when no one else
does.
We need to remember
Joseph .... and think . how
differently the promise of
Christmas might have turned
out if he hadn't done his,. hest
as a man, as a husband, as a
parent.

The Keller Christmas this

Toronto will sit down to
dinner after church service in
the morning.
Christmas night at the
Keller house will he open
house when we're expecting
many of our good 'friends to
call.
On I3oxing Day, we all go to
Dashwood for Grandma's
Christmas hash for about 70
people.
May I take this opportunity
again this year to extend to
you my hest wishes for a
Blessed Christmas and a
joyous, prosperous New
Year. As one of my friends
pointed out in a Christmas
greeting she wrote: May 1978
bring you the greatest gift, a
happy heart.
