Snow said good
housekeeping practices will
also be stressed in Ministry
maintenance operations.
"It is our intention to refine
our procedures rather than
introduce drastic changes
which could result in chaotic
traffic problems.
"Hopefully, these will
permit a general reduction in
the amount of salt used."
He noted, however, that the
Ministry can only go so far
with their reduction in the use
of road salt.
"Motorists have become
accustomed to driving on
relatively bare pavement,
even under the worst winter
driving conditions.
"The use of salt can be
significantly reduced only if
the driving public is prepared
to change their driving habits
to suit the weather conditions
that prevail in the province,"
he said.

Due to the higher cost of providing
service, The Goderich P.U.C. has found it
necessary to increase its electrical rates
or 1978 as of January 1, SUBJECT TO ON-
ARIO HYDRO APPROVAL.
Our cost for bunk power from Ontario
ydro has increased by 9.7%. However,
ue to favourable economic factors and
Xport sales experienced in 1977, . On -
(trio Hydro will pass on to The Goderich
•• a rebate estimated to be
110,970,00. This rebate which will be
pread over the entire year has reduced
our increase for electricity to an
Verageof6.6%.
It is not expected that any such "win -
f allli will occur in 1978, and therefore it
I anticipated that the increase in elec-
rical rates for 1979 will be considerably
