Huronview holds program
Dr. C. E. Toll of Seaforth
arranged a Christmas
program on Sunday afternoon
in the auditorium at
Huronview.
The program featured the
-Seaforth and ..Dashwood
Community Band with step
dance numbers by the Little
Macks, Martha Cook, Andria
Muir, Chelene Glanville,
Kelly Nicholson, students of
Lyle Storey.
Angela Andresia en-
tertained with Scottish
dancing and there were vocal
numbers by Valerie., and
Shelley Wassman.
Nelson Howe played the
violin as accompaniment for
the dancers and Mrs. Elsie
Henderson accompanied the
carol sing led by Harry
Hoffman.
Mrs. Hattie Burton thanked
the entertainers on behalf of
the Huronview residents.

arranged and accompanied a
Maple Leaf
Chapter buys shovels
The members of Maple
Leaf Chapter I.O.D.E. held
their Christmas meeting at
St Peter's Parish Hall. After
a delicious dinner and an
exchange of gifts the Regent,
Mrs. G.L. Royal extended a
welcome to the members and
guests.
Mrs. Royal thanked Mrs. R.
Breckenridge and her
committee for entering a
float in the Christmas parade.
The float won third prize.
Mrs. H. Murphy gave the
report for the Ways and
Means committee and the
members voted to buy the
necessary ,snow scoops and
snow shovels ,for the Adult
Training Centre. They also
voted to donate money to the
Christmas Bureau of the
Family and Childrens

Services to purchase gifts for
teenage children.
Mrs. C. Edward and Mrs.
R. McCallum with Mrs. E.
Jessop at the piano led in the
singing of Christmas Carols.
Mrs. Royal expressed the
appreciation of the chapter to
Mrs. P. Rivers, Mrs. W.
Stanbury and Mrs. P.
Strickland for arranging the
Christmas Party.
The January meeting will
be held at the home of Mrs. S.
Prevett, 80 Colborne Street.
musical program on Family
Night at Huronview. The
residents provided the talent
for the program, assisted by
two staff members and a
volunteer.
There were vocal solos and
duets by Chester Archibald,
Wayne Lester, Mrs. Alton,
Mrs. Luella Cox, Mrs.
Henderson, Nelson Lear and
Cecil Skinner.
A pantomime was per-
formed by Ben Sowerby and
Chester Mawhinney. Old
Tyme waltzes were played by
Elsie Henderson, Norman
Speir, Cecil Skinner and
Jerry Collins and danced by
six members of Mrs. Hen-
derson's family.
Mrs. Pearson expressed the
appreciation of the Huron -
view residents for the lovely
music and entertainment.
The Over -Ninety Club of
Huronview met on Wed-
nesday afternoon and were
entertained by the Huronview
Orchestra. Two members of
the Walkerburn Club, Mrs.
Hunking and Mrs. McClin-
chey, assisted with a
program of Christmas
readings and a sing -a -long of
carols.
Mr. Cecil Skinner led the
regular Thursday afternoon
Bible Study at Huronview
accompanied at the organ by
Mrs. Henderson.
Nelson farewell

Rev. Edwin G. Nelson will
be preaching his farewell
sermons at First
Presbyterian Church,
Seaforth and St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church,
Clinton, on December 18, as
he has accepted a call to
serve at the Presbyterian
churches at Avonton and
Motherwell-Avonbank
beginning the first of
January. He has chosen that
date so as not to interfere
with the Christmas services
on December 25.
Mr. Nelson, a native of
Goderich, has been serving
the two charges since the
spring of 1974.
He was educated at
Goderich schools, Waterloo
Lutheran University (now Sir
Wilfrid Laurier) and is a
graduate of the Presbyterian
College of Montreal.

His first appointment was

Mr. Nelson and his wife,
Florence, have three sons,
Dwight, married and living in
Madoc, is studying for the
ministry; Mark is married
and lives in Toronto; Dale at
home, is a student at the
University of Western
Ontario and a daughter,
Cindy, at.home, attends
SeaforthDistrict High School.
St. Paul's Anglican Church,
Clinton and St. Thomas
Anglican Church, Seaforth,
are seeking a new minister
following the retirement of
Rev. Stanley Sharples at the
end of October. He served
these two churches for 101/2
years, coming here from
Delhi. -
Mr. Sharples and his wife
are now living in Beamsville.
Tragedy in Bay
City Hotel fire
Tragedy struck Goderich's
sister city, , Bay City,
Michigan, when fire broke out
at the four -storey Wenonah
Park Building at 7:45 a.m.
Saturday, killing at least ten
persons and. sending 45 others
to hospital. Four of the 45 are
in critical condition.
Lionel Ayotte, Bay City
assistant fire chief, said state
police arson investigators are
seeking eviderice of arson in
the fire which destroyed the
70 -year-old apartment
building. Arson was
suspected, he said, because of
the quick spread of the fire
and because both ends of the

Increases in Old Age
Security pension .and
Guaranteed Income Sup-
plement payments represent
the seventeenth quarterly
escalation based on the cost
of living, --as provided for in
the Old Age Security Act.
The new monthly total at
the single rate for persons
receiving both the basic Old
Age Security. pension and
Allowance, and amount paid,
is based on yearly income.
The maximum Spouse's
Allowance will increase to
$249.00, from $244.12. ,.The
maximum Spou'se's
Allowance is made up of an
amollrnt equivalent to the
basic Old Age Security
pension and the maximu

plement at the marriedrate

For a married couple, both
pensioners, the combination
of the basic pension and
maximum supplement will
provide a payment of$
for the couple monthly.
The basic Old Age Security
pension will rise in January to
$153.44 from the present
$150.43.
The Guaranteed Income
Supplement is paid to pen-
sioners whose income, apart
from the Old Age Security
pension, is limited. The
amount of the supplement
varies in relation to the
amount of income.
The maximum Guaranteed
Income Supplement for a
single person, or a married
person whose spouse is not a
pensioner and is not receiving
a Spouse's Allowance, will go
up in January to $107.62 from
its current $105.51. The
maximum supplement for a
married couple, both pen-
sioners, will increase to $95.56
each from $93.69. Added to
the basic pension, this will
give each married pensioner
$249 monthly, or a total of $498
for the couple.
The Spouse's Allowance is
paid to persons between 60
and 65 years of age who are
married to Old Age Security
pensioners and meet
residence requirements.
