The annual meeting of the
Federated Women's
Institutes of Ontario (FWIO)
met in the Lord Simcoe hotel,
Toronto from December 5th -
9th. The president. Mrs. Herb
Maluske, Chesley welcomed
32 senior and two junior board
directors. "It is the effect of
every blade of grass that
makes the meadow green".
Every branch member is a
most important link in the
.total organization.
Silver Jubilee medals were
presented recently to past
president, Mrs. Harvey
Noblitt, Ottawa and the
president, Mrs Maluske, and
each were given an engraved
'certificate in honor of the
Queen's Silver Jubilee.
Miss Molly McGhee,
director ref the home
economics branch of the
ministry of agriculture and
food, -,„said the county home
economists are being asked to
speak at mann meetings, but
80 percent of their time is
devoted to the 4-H programs.
A 81 million w orth of help is
given by WI members all
over Ontario in their
volunteer leadership of the 4-
H and senior leaders training
courses. Mrs. Harvey
Houston. the PFO stated the
Women's. Institute is truly an
Education organization, as
over $1226,500 was spent for
those purposes. Many local
and community projects
benefit from generosity in
excess of 8180.000. Mrs.
Houston c.)mplr tes a six-year
term; and her successor is
Mrs, John Brown. Washago.
The Erla.nd Lee Horne
report by Mrs. Austin Zoeller,
New, Hurnhur•g, stated that
1,410 people -visited the Home
during WI week June 6 - 10th.
The FWIO own this historic
place situated at Stoney
Creek.
Mrs. Maluske attended the
15th Triennial Conference of
Associated Countrywomen, of
the World in Nairobi. Kenya,
.Africa with the theme being
"Building for Tomorrow",
The general assembly of the
United Nations has
proclaimed 1979 as Inter-
national Year of the Child.
The • objective to make the
world realize the child as its
most precious resource. The
next Conference to he held in
the Federal Republic of
Germany.
Mrs. R.C. Walker, St.
George, who has been FWIO .
Twrredsmuir History Curator
for 23 yetirs'. reported there
are 1,;00 copies of Historical
Books to Ontario. She visited
all the Districts in the
province in 1957-58. She was
akin responsible for in-
troducing. 15 years ago. the
compiiatien of House Logs.
Mrs Walker was presented
with a Life .Membership In
FWIO.
