McLean leads charge with five
The Clinton Junior "C"
Mustangs continue to
dominate the Central Junior
"C" League as they won two
more games this week to run
their record to 13 wins, only
one loss, and four ties.
The most valuable boy's volleyball players were honored at an awards assembly Wed-
nesday morning at GDCI. Steve Sager, left, was named the most valuable junior player
and Andy Moore was awarded the Mark Barker Memorial Trophy as the -Senior MVP in

The 1V1ustangs also
dominate the scoring race,
with captain Steve Cook
leading the league scoring
race with 41 points, six -ahead
of Kent Norman of Listowel.
Tim McLean of Goderich is
not far behind, holding down
third place with 32 points.
The Mustangs alsb-have the
best goaltending, With goalies
Derek Divok, Jergen
Hellman and Dean Ryan
allowing only 2.98 goals per
game.
Ryan picked up alb
Mustangs. first shut -out on
Tuesday night when the
'Stangs blanked the Hanover
Barons 6-0 on a team effort.
Ryan blocked all 37 Hanover
shots, while, Clinton picked up
goals from John Graham,
Goaltenders salvage points

Excellent goaltending last
weekend by both Clinton
goaltenders, Juergen
Hellman and Dean Ryan
enabled the Mustangs to
salvage thret points in the
two weekend games.
Last Friday night in Clinton
the Port Elgin Bears were in
town and after 60 minutes of
exciting hockey action, the
teams left the ice deadlocked
again in a 2-2 tie. The Bears
opened the scoring in the
second period on a powerplay
goal by Mike Huber, with Bill
Irwin serving a roughing
penalty.
In the third period, Clin-
ton's Paul Helesic finally beat
Port Elgin's goaltender Dave
Rosener on a goalmouth
scramble assisted by Paul
Priestap and John Graham.
Port Elgin went ahead again
at the 15 minute mark of the
third period but the Mustangs
battled back at 17:07 of that
period. John Graham gave
Clinton the tie on a well
executed shot between the
legs of Port Elgin goaltender,
assisted by Pete Thompson.
Juergen Hellman had 33
saves for Clinton.
Last Sunday afternoon, the
Mustangs travelled to
Walkerton to face the .Black
Hawks who trail Clinton by a
mere seven points as we near
the halfway mark of the
season.
Dean Ryan played an
outstanding game for Clinton
as he turned aside 42
Walkerton shots in a 3-2
vigtory, 21 of them in the
second period. Walkerton
opened the scoring on a
powerplay early in the first
period before Steve Cook
retaliated for the 'Slangs,
assis'ed by John Graham.
The Black Hawks scored
the only goal of the second
period as they blasted 22
shots at Ryan, while Clinton
managed only four on
Walkerton goaltender Dave
Neisen.
Entering the third period
and trailing by one goal,
veterans Tim McLean and
Steve Cook fired *a pair of
goals to give Clinton the
victory, while Ryan closed
the door on the Black Hawks.
The Mustangs next home
game this Friday, December
9 will be against the Listowel
Cyclones at 8:30 p.m. and
then on Sunday, December 11
the Hanover Barons will
come to town for a 7:30 p.m.
contest.
Dave Bedour was awarded the GDCI Golf Champion
trophy at a special awards assembly held at the school
Wednesday morning. Bedour captured top honors
amongst golfers at the school and was presented the

Clinton Arena, the Mustangs,
led by McLean thumped the
Hanover Barons by a score of
9-2. McLean, a second year
veteran scored five goals
before a small crowd.
The 'Stangs scored four
times in the opening period,
twice by McLean and singles
by Butler and Pete Thomp-
son.
In the second period

goals and Graham notched a
single while Hanover notched
one. The teams split once as
Billy Roy scored the Clinton
marker. Clinton outshot
Hanover 75-47.
Hellman had the victory in
the Clinton nets. Central
Junior "C" scorer, Cook was.
held toonly two assists.
This Friday night the
Mustangs will host the
Walkerton Blackhawks ,at
8:30. Next Tuesday,
December 20, the 'Stangs will
travel back to Hanover to
face the Barons again.
