Three teams shire curling lea
in Industrial loop
After four weeks of curling
there are no undefeated
teams and a three way tie for
first place.Previously un-
defeated Champion Plant
suffered its first defeat of the
season at the hands of the
previously winless Huron
Health Unit.
The excellent curling of
Don Hullch, Laurie Ginn and
John Orr coupled with the
Outstanding players on the GDCI junior football team were
honored Wednesday morning at an awards assembly at the
school. The most valuable player of the year and the out-
standing lineman were named and honored by their

Charlie MacDonald met the -J
challenge and came out on
top with a win over Dave
Weary to move back into his
familiar first place spot.
Charlie, for the time being
anyways, has shown that he is
still the master of the
Goderich Township Chess
Club. Charlie is now the only
player who can still boast an
undefeated record this year.
Dave Weary is looking for-
ward to s second encounter
with Charlie at which Dave
would have the opportunity of ,
equalling the score and
moving back into first place.
However, Dave better watch
out for Louis Stadelmann who
has won eight games in the
last 3 weeks to challenge
Dave for second place. Louis
has a 14-2 record to Dave's 14-
1. Bob Dick came through
with his eighth win of the
season to challenge Jim
Kingsley 'fOr fourth spot. Both
Bob and Jim have .800 win -
loss marks.
Kirk Lyndon picked up two
victories to strengthen his
lead in Level 2. Dennis Little
won two or three games to
catch Brian Miller in third
place while Steve Harding
gained a win to strengthen his
hold on the last. second level
position. All in all it was a
good ni, ht for Level 2
players.

The big ne s of the night
was a remarkable game
played by young Ron Van.-
derlinde who upset Jim
Kingsley for his third win of
the season. Ron played an
extremely efficient and
aggressive game right to the
end. The win has moved Ron
up into second place in Level
4.

jumped into a quick lead and
despite some fine shots by
Roger Moore and Charlie
Crawford, they stayed there
to claim their first taste of
v ictory.

It was a night for firsts as
the Kinsmen Club also
grabbed their first points of
the season by upsetting
Victoria and Grey 7 - 2. Strong
curling from the front three
and super shot execution by
skip Larry McGrath told the
story. V & G skip Hugh
Doggett built several
protential ends but was
unable to master the key shot
and found himself playing
catch-up all evening.
It was also a night of upsets
as a sho`f•thanded G.D.C.I.
teacher team snowed under
the powerful Assessment
Office 8 - 5. Del Almeida and
Bev. Lindsay were out-
standing as their shots
constantly arrived on target.

in a losing effort.
Ron Klages and the A.M. &
G Hospital team continued to
impress as they dumped a
luckless Elementary Teacher
Teani 11 - 2. Spare Jim.Banks
filled in expertly as the
Hospital employees allowed
the teachers only one end in
the game. Elementary
teachers Mary Lou Taylor,
Dianne Budnark, Caroline
Cass and Craig Cass were
unable to overcome a shakey
start as Klages and company
curled as smartly as they
looked.
Pat Murphy was honored at an awards—assembly at
GDCI Wednesday morning for his salesmanship In a
recent magazine subscription drive. Murphy sold 39
subscriptions valued at $402 and won the right to hit the
teacher of his choice in the face with a blueberry ple.
Murphy chose his math teacher Tom Allen as a target for
the pie. The drive was sponsored by the GDC! student
council and one third of the profits of Murphy's sales goes
