However, Chief King would urge all Christmas shoppers to lock parcels in their cars while shopping this year. Like last year, said Chief King, there has heen a rash of thefts from vehicles. The Library Board is asking Huron County Council for a grant of $262,822. or $4.69 per capita for support of the library to meet the budget. The Library Board operates through 2 outlets with a staff of 35 - 40—people, many of them being part- time. As well as an increase of salaries, the Library Board is concerned about the in- crease of the price of books. In 1978, $100,000. has been allocated for books and precessing. This year they are also faced with an in- crease due to the drop in Canadian exchange rates as well as an increase in book production. The cost of magazines and publications have shown a marked in-, crease over last year. For- tunately for the board this year, many of the Canadian magazines and newspapers were paid out of Huron County Library's $7,000 Wintario grant. Although there has been an increase of $18,900 over the 1977 budget the increase is only to keep up with present operations. The Library supplies a wide variety of services and programs. To date 17,596 or 31 percent of the county population are registered as borrowers. As well as book materials, the library has film service, children's programs, talking books and shut-in service. Toronto woman buried locally Mrs. Gertrude Rose Pearl Vanstone of 1002 Woodbine Avenue in Toronto died in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Toronto after a lengthy illness on December 11 at the age of 92. She was born on April 1, 1885 in Nipissing, Ontario to Margaret (McVittie) and Thomas Armstrong. Following the death of her father, she moved to Auburn as a small child to live with her father's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. $ineon Sarles. She attended school in Auburn. On August 8, 1906 she married Edgar S. Vanstone in Auburn. He predeceased her on January 15, 1945. Following her marriage the late Mrs. Vanstone lived in Toronto, then moved to Benmiller for 13 years and returned to Toronto in 1925. She is survived by one daughter, Winnifred of Toronto. She was predeceased by a sister, _ Mrs. ' Melvon (Florence) • Jewell and a brother, Henry Armstrong. A funeral service was held Obituaries at Stiles Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 14 at 2 p.m. The Reverend John D. M. Wood officiated. Interment was in Colborne Cemetery.
