take notice of anyway.

cording to Markson. --
Goderich
- "'Goderich and area people
seem to be slow in booking
their trips, says Markson. A
trend has been established
where Goderich and area
people generally start
booking their trips about
three weeks after people
begin booking their trips at
the travel bureau in Exeter.
Goderich and area people are
good travellers though, says
Markson, and as a rule they
pick good packages.
The busiest months at the
Coach House are January and
February and the slowest
month is August. People
seem to like to be home in the
snow for Christmas but most
will leave on their vacations
shortly afterwards. In fact
this year, says Markson, a
popular travel day may be
Christmas day itself since it
falls on a Sunday and most
packaged holidays have
Sundays as departure days.
The most popular method
of public transportation for
vacations is flying. Between
60 and 65 per cent of all the
Coach House's customers
travel by plane, says
Markson. It is the cheapest
and fastest mode of public
transportation. Travel by
ship is still the most ex-
pensive means of tran-
sportation if a person is
travelling from one point to
another (this does not include
a cruise),
Markson says that people
today are learning that the
different vacation islands are
just as lovely in the summer
season as they are in winter
at about half the price. They
are also learning that they
can travel in groups and this
way their holiday may only
cost them a third of the price
that they would pay if
travelling alone.
SKI VACATIONS
Of course not everyone
dislikes the winter weather.
Ski enthusiasts can enjoy
"Quicki Weekends in
Quebec" at reasonable
prices. Quebec winter car-
nival vacations have to be
booked far in advance.
The Banff area is a top rate
skiing area says Markson,
but people don't book as early
for this area as they do in
others. Vail, Colorado is also
a popular ski vacation area.
Markson feels that Thunder
Bay, Ontario is also going to
catch on soon as a popular
skiing area. It is a convenient
spot for long weekend trips he
says.
There doesn't seem to be a
ski vacation spot trend in the
U.S. says Markson. And
people seem to be holding
back on their ski vacations
this year because of the poor
snow conditions along the
western Rockies last year, he
says.
The devaluation of the
Canadian dollar is a big snag
