Zurich added another goal
in the second period to
narrow the margin to 5-2 but
Goderich replied with three
straight goals in the final
period to increase the gap,

The Merchants erupted for
their two most productive
games winning 12-4 in a game
played in Clinton last
Thursday and then ham --
mered the Flyers 8-3 in
Zurich on Sunday.
The victories compensate
for two previous losses to the
C.C.A.T. Saints in the first
week of the season.
Goderich exploded for six
goals in the first period of the
first game and added three
goals in each of the final two
periods for the 12-4 win.
Charlie Robertson provided
the offensive punch scoring
four goals, three in the first
period, and assisting on
another.
Barry Bloch put Goderich
ahead with a goal just 20
seconds into the game but
Zurich replied with two
straight goals to take the
lead. That lead was short
lived as the Merchants rallied
for five goals in the first

period and held a four -goal
lead after the first period.
Robertson tied the game
midway through the period
and after Paul Corriveau
gave Goderich a one -goal
lead on an unassisted effort,
Robertson completed his
hattrick with two straight
goals.
Ron Corriveau scored
before the end of the first
period to increase the
Goderich margin to four
goals.
Following two first period
goals; Zurich managed single
markers in the second and
third periods. Other Goderich
scorers included Ron
Whetstone, Dave Graf, Phil
Petrie, Milt Place and Rick

In the series opener in
Goderich Friday night,
Milverton jumped to a one

were handed their first loss of
the season by Walkerton on
Saturday night, 6-4.

scoring with a goal on a pass
from Larry Madge. Rob
Trebish got the second goal.

period Larry Madge, on his
own, went down the ice and
got Goderich's last goal of the
game. But Walkerton wasn't
finished yet, scoring three
goals; ending the game with a
6-4 win.
In their second game on the
weekend, the Midgets came
out on top 9-3 against Port
Elgin.
Goderich had a slow start,
as they didn't get on the.score
hoard until the second period.
Port Elgin got the first goal of
the game, in the first period.
Larry Daer started
Goderich off with a goal, set
up by Hodges and Lewis.
About five minutes later, Ken
Reid got his fir: goal of the
',year, with a shot from the
point, assisted by Hodges and
Daer. Uaer got his second
goal of the game, assisted
again by Hodges and Lewis.
Goderich then proceeded tb
double the score before the
second period was over.
Trebish got the fourth
Goderich goal when he tucked
it past the goalie, after being
set up by Madge and Maillet.
With 31 seconds left in the
second period, Goderich
managed to get two more
goals. Larkin got the first
goal with the help of Stoddart
and John Clements' hard
digging paid off, with the
second goal, by Larkin and
Costello.
Goderich came out strong
in the third period, getting
three more goals to Port
Elgin's one. Hodges got the
first and second goals. The
first, was assisted by
MacDonald and Daer, and
was smashed in, during a
scramble in front of .the net
and the second on a rebound
from Maillet and Daer. Rob
MacDonald finished the
scoring with a low slap shot
from the point, on a pass from
Maillet. Both goalies, Steve
Gallow and Gerry Gaynor,
played a strong game.

4. Goderich scored twice in
the opening period to grab a 2

game in the second. They
scored their final two goals in
the third but a short handed
effort in the third put the
game away for Milverton.
Grant Shelton gave the
Sailors a one goal lead with
8:47 played in the game
getting help from. Dan
Duncan and Wayne Kennedy.
Milverton tied the game on a
three way play at 13:04 on a
goal by Harrow but just over
a minute later Ron Sowerby
gave the Sailors another lead.
Sowerby got help from
Shelton and Kelly.
Milverton owned the second
period grabbing four goals to
grab a 5 - 2 lead. Just over
three minutes into the period

Lions streak to fifth straight win
The Goderich Lions Pee
Wees defeated Listowel, 6-3,
in their only game of the week
last Thursday in Listowel.
The victory gives the Lions a
record of five wins- and no
losses in WOAA hockey ac-
tion.
Goderich built up a 4-0 lead
by the middle of the second

Colts set for
season opener
The regenerated Clinton
Intermediate "C" Colts,
playing with very few
returning players from last
year, and in a new league,
open their 1977-78 season this
weekend.
The Colts travel to Mitchell
on Friday night to battle the
Red Devils, and then host the
Monkton club here at the
Clinton arena on Sunday
night at 8 p.m.
..The Colts, who folded this
fall, were revived by a group
of intermediate hockey
supporters in town, but
switched leagues from the
Ontario Hockey Association
to the Western Ontario
Athletic Association, and
many of last year's Colts quit
rather than play' in the
WOAA.

But Harvey Carter, along
with several other interested
hockey fans in town, revived
the club last month, and they
have been practicing at
Vanastra.
Not only were they suf-
fering from lack of players at
first, but they didn't book ice
time at the Clinton Arena
soon enough, and had to
-practice at Vanastra.
They will play all their
-home games at Clinton,
however.
Paul Anstett is handling the
managers reins, while John
Leppington is treasurer.
George Divok is looking after
the coaching duties with
assistance from Harvey
Carter.
Brenner and Brad Arm-
strong, before Jeff Gowing
replied for Listowel.
Steve Sinclair got that one
back in the last minute of play
in the second period.
The Cyclones started
strong in the third, with two
goals by Bruce Gooding, but
Paul Brenner scored his
second goal for Goderich to
put out the fire,
Brad Armstrong had
two assists to go with his goal
and David Day had one assist
for the Lions.
Jeff Denomme played a
strong game in goal for
Goderich.
The Lions face their biggest
challenge of the season so far
this week with two' games
against the ' powerful
Walkerton Pee Wees. Tonight
(Thursday) the Lions play
host to Walkerton at 8 p.m.

afternoon contest.
