DeCourcy H. Rayner delivered the sermon. A .memorial service was held for the 9 ministers and 41 ruling elders of synod who passed away during the past 12 months. The Rev. Iain Nicol of Knox College, Toronto, asked members to consider the admission of children to the Sacramental Table, thus challenging the traditional position of the Presbyterian Church in Canada that participation in the Lord's Supper must be preceded by a formal profession of faith. Members questioned the ability of children to "discern the Lord's body", with fears expressed that the church over intellectualizes the Holy Communion. The role of church discipline was raised. Greater use of the New Testament "Love Feast" was suggested. The debate it was reported will be continued at the next General Assembly to be held in McNab Street Presbyterian Church, Hamilton, June 4 - 10th, 1978. , Lions collect $2,700 for the blind The Lions Club canvass for CNIB in Goderich last week will total $2,700 when all collections are counted. Lion Wally Kennedy, ad- ministrator of the London District office of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, was a guest of the Lions at their meeting. The London office serves 640 persons in this area. Of these, 150 are in the counties of Huron and Perth. A slide presentation was used to outline the work of CNIB and the services it provides. Kevin Carey of the Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind, from London, England, accompanied Lion Kennedy. It is estimated that there are 20 million blind in the world. Carey drew at- tention to the fact that most blindness is either preven- table or curable, yet if our present trend continues the number of blind will double by the year 2000.
