Although the hail, lightning and thunder on Friday evening caused some concern, and hydro was out when a bolt of lightning hit, several places in the area. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Barger were frightened when all the cows fell to the floor while being milked. At the same time light bulbs in the house were shattered, and the pressure system on the water supply burned out. In other instances it was t.v. towers, t.v.'s and clocks, light bulbs and rotors. SOCIAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Doug. Martyn attended the Pork Producers' banquet on Thursday evening at Bruce Township Com- munity Centre at Underwood. They were on the late news on t.v. the same evening, when pictures were shown of the meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Ross MacKenzie spent a couple of days in Toronto recently Mr. and Mrs. Ewan MacLean were guests of honour on Sunday last, when relatives held a surprise party at Sutton Park on the occasion of Ewan and Marjorie's wedding an- niversary. Mr. Jim Bradley was lucky to escape serious injury on Monday evening when a big deer jumped onto the road, and smashed the truck he was driving. Weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Oliver McCharles were Mrs. Jean McCharles, and children of Oakville, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald McCharles and family of Chatham and Mr. and Mrs. John McCharles of Petrolia. W.M.S. Women of Ashfield Presbyterian church W.M.S. met Thursday evening in the church., for their Thankof- fering meeting. Mrs. Nugent was the speaker and brought a message of Thanksgiving. Kingsbridge CWL requests Mass A large number of parishioners attended a special Mass requested by members of the Kingsbridge Catholic Women's League for fine harvest weather. Reverend Father Ed Den- tinger, C.R. officiated at this mass held on Monday evening, October 17 in St. Joseph's church at Kingsbridge. Prayers were answered as this has been'the nicest week weatherwise for some time. PRO LIFE Thirteen persons front this area attended the Annual Pro Life Annual Dinner meeting held at St. Peter's Parish Hall, St. Joseph, Ontario on Wednesday, October 19. Guest speaker was Reverend Ball from Gorrie. WMS hears Mrs. Watt The October Thankoffering meeting of Knox Church W.M-.S. Afternoon -Auxiliary 'was held in the Church parlor on Tuesday October 19 at 2:30 p.m. President, Mrs. Clayton Edward opened the meeting with a Thanksgiving poem followed by prayer, and conducted the business for the meeting. One item of business was giving support to the Huronview Christmas Fair with donations of gifts they suggested. Some gifts will be left at the Manse or brought to the November meeting. Also. it was moved by Mrs. Erskine and seconded by Mrs. R. McAllister that the 'W.M.S. give a subscription of the Glad Tidings magazine to Mrs. Gary Davidson, leader of the C.O.C. group. Mrs. Enright, literature secretary had several books for the members for reading Mrs. E. Bogie reported that she had made several visits to members and she, along with Miss L. McArthur had sent out monthly letters to members in Huronview. Mrs.�' Frank Wilcox presented the message of the Least Coin. This being the Thanksgiving, Thankoffering meeting, the theme com- menced with Mrs. Gordon Henderson and Mrs. Gordon Kaitting singing the duet, Count Your Many Blessings. Mrs. Lockhart Royal in- troduced the guest speaker, Lieutenant Mrs. Neil Watt of the Salvation Army, Goderich. She told the W.M.S. how the Army was started and spoke of the many ways besides church services in which they help others in their work of spreading the Gospel. Mrs. Don Croft thanked the One accident here The Goderich Police Department was called to investigate only one accident during the past week. A two -car collision at the intersection of Walnut Street and Maitland Road resulted in a total damage estimate of $1,000 to vehicles driven by Eleanor Larder. 89 Napier St. Goderich and Desmond Leeper, 56 Victoria St. Goderich. Damage to the Larder vehicle was estimated at $400 and $600 to the Leeper vehicle. There were no in- juries. During the week two charges were laid under the Juvenile Delinquent Act, 35 under the Highway Traffic Act, seven under the Liquor Licence Act, five under the Criminal Code of Canada, two under the Narcotics Act and one under the Motorized Vehicle .Accident Claims Act. On Thursday, October 27, 1977 the St. Joseph's school association executive is meeting at 8 p.m. This will be the first meeting under the re- organized structure and should prove to be in- teresting. ,week in volleyball, Edmonton clinched first place in the intermediate league with a win over Toronto. However, the next day Edmonton was shocked into a defeat by Saskat- chewan who proved that the previously unbeaten Yellow team were vulnerable. Earlier in the week, the Greens had tied with bottom place Toronto. Junior Houseleague were quiet with only one game played. However, Edmon- ton's win over Saskatchewan moved Edmonton into a tie for first place with Toronto who has one game in hand. In line soccer, the primary grade Toronto team lost to friends in.
