The second year that the
Gift Shop was in operation,
the Auxiliary again showed a
profit.. As a new enterprise
they purchased little girls'
dresses and little boys'
romper sets from wholesalers
in Toronto to sell in the Gift
Shop and they proved very
popular.
Today the Gift Shop is still
going strong and so is the
Women's Hospital Auxiliary.
'There are about 39 members
in the Auxiliary. They meet
the third Monday of every
month at 2 p.m. in their own
Auxiliary room in the hospital
basement.

,ell calendars and all during
the year they operate the Gift

they do hospital repair work
such as mending linens,

they made. the Auxiliary
donated a life size model of a
human body to the hospital.

says Mrs. White, they don't
sell and they have to be put on
sale. Mrs. Worsell says the
Gift Shop can sell children's
clothes at the cheapest prices
in town because they don't
have any 9verhead to pay
such as rept.
Mrs. Worsell Wants to make
it clear that any woman can
join the Hospital Auxiliary.
She doesn't have to have any
particular connection with
-the hospital. The AuSciliary is
a worthwhile and charitable
group which gives its
members a feeling of
satisfaction'. The work that
they do is of vital importance
to the hospital.
President of the Women's Hospital Auxiliary, Frances Worsell sits in the Maternity
Waiting Room. The room was furnished and carpeted with money earned by the
Auxiliary. The Auxiliary earns its money to buy hospital equipment by holding an annual
penny fair and tea, by selling calendars and by operating their Gift Shop at the hospital's
entrance. They also do hospital repair work such as mendinglinens. (staff photo)

She was the convener of the
Gift Shop for 16 years. This
year, Irene White is the
convener of the Gift Shop.
The Gift Shop is open six
days a week 'from 2 to 4 p.m.
On Tuesdays, Thursdays and
Saturdays, the Gift Cart
makes its rounds on each
floor of the hospital. The Gift
Shop sells candy, toys, cards,
toiletries, stationary,
blankets and baby clothes up
to 24 months.
Both Mrs, Worsell and Mrs.
``White' say they need more
volunteers to man the Gift
Shop. They would like to be
atilt' to keep the shop open in
the evenings. They also need
volunteers to knit baby outfits
and mittens.
Twice a year the Auxiliary
President and Gift Shop
Convener visit Toronto
wholesalers to purchase baby
clothing. u This year Mrs.
Worsell and Mrs. White said
that the price of clothing was
up considerably and they
could not afford to purchase
a, much as they would have
liked to. They saw children's
overalls for $14 and little
girls' dresses for $25. The
l,1di''' say their clientele
could nut afford such prices,
if the clothes are overpriced,
