for peace in the world and

Student's Council this week
The soccer games were
continued through the week.
On Friday, September 23
many pupils from Brookside
went to the Dungannon Fair
in buses. Those that did notgo
to the fair stayed at school
and had a regular school day,
Congratulations to the many
students who won prizes at
the fair,
On September 27 a very
informative and interesting
workshop was held in
Wingham, designed to help
teachers to plan units on
urban studies. The teachers
were assigned to areas of
interest and interviewed
several businesses, tran-
sportation centres, churches
and communication centres.
After collecting information
they assembled together for
display and discussion.'The
workshop was very- well
organized and most suc-

From now until July 1978,
the Goderich Kinsmen have a
full slate of activities" plan-
ned. Their annual fall and
spring stags will he held on
October 22 and April 15,
respectively. at the arena.
The successful Cross •
Country Ski -A -Than will take
place in February and a
returning heef harhecue and
Glance will he held in May.
Proceeds from these events
go towards the Kinsmen
('entre for the Adult Mentally
Handicapped located on
South Street in Goderich and
also towards Otic Fibrosis
research.
On the occasion of the
Association of Kinsmen
Club's Annual Convention
held in Toronto in August. it
was announced that the
Association provided
$93,679,413.69 in service work
in Canada.
Wayne Boddy, National.
President of the Association,
stated: "At an average of
over $69,000 per club, this is
the highest our Association
has ever raised in a twelve
month period. In fact, 1
believe this is an all time
record for any service club in
the history of our country."
As in the past, the Goderich
Kinsmen are seeking com-
munity support for their
worthwhile projects and are
looking forward to another
big year serving Goderich.
"Kinsmen is Canada's All
Canadian .Service Club, and is
the -only 'major service club
founded in Canada. -The
Kinsmen Club of Goderich is
one of 563 such ,clubs in
Canada dedicated to serving
the community's greatest
need.
Two of the objects of Kin
are to train their members in
modern business and
professional ethics, and to
carry on service work in their
community.
Young men between the
ages of 21 to 40 desiring in•
formation nn joining our
Kinsmen Club may contact

CNIB requests support
The Canadian National
institute for the Blind has
been at work since 1918 trying
to improve the social and
economic condition of the
blind and to prevent blind-
ness.
Today, there are thirty
thousand hlind in Canada
receiving services from the
CNiB.
The wonderful National
library of Braille and talking
hooks and magazines are sent
to and from Toronto cost free.
There are Rehabilitation
teachers who w,11 visit the
homes of the blind and give
instruction in Braille,
typewriting and mobility. -
CNIR and Canada Man-
power are working together
to try to find more suitable
jobs for the blind.
Registered blind can
purchase Braille watches and
clocks also white canes.
Persons who have had sight
will never forget how to write,
hut the problem is to keep on
a straight line, So there are
writing aids available. There
are games such as playing
cards, bingo, scramble and
checkers and dominos.
Believe it or not, now they
have a talking calculator.
in recent years, local clubs
have been playing an im-
portant part in the work of the
•blind.
