The idea for the project was
to see if the board could save
money by keeping its own
buses in service for such
ventures from schools rather
than renting a bus and paying
costs for the driver and the
vehicle every time the school
needed it, At a board meeting
recently several trustees
suggested that the move
would save the hoard a
considerable amount of
money in the future as well as
being more conwenit nt to the
schools,
The board also accepted a
recommendation that the
standard $200 grant for
municipalities holding
special celebrations, such as
centennials, be dropped and
that each request for money
for crlehrations be treated
separately. The budget
committee felt that each
request wotild be different
depending on the size of the
celebration and that each one
should be treated in-
dividually.
A request for additional
lockers- for Goderich District
Collegiate institute was
tabled until 1975. The high
school is short about 50
student lockers according to
GDCI principal John Stringer
who told the ' hoard that

shortage. The committee felt
that the hoard- didn't hatv
money this year for ad-
ditional lockers hut advised
Stringer that if hi, rhos)!
budget could he atliusted to
purchase the lockers this
year without asking the board
for more money he 'yeas free
to buy them.
The board accepttc'd
recommendations from the
budget committee for the
purchase of t colour
television for J•A..D.
1\1c(urdy Public School since
the school budget can afford
it and approved the purchase
of a dinosaur climbing ap-
paratus for Hensall Public
School under the slime
auspices. A request for >a new
piano for Zurich Public
School was tabled to -see if a
suitable used piano could he
found.
The board also amended its
policy for comm
1(0Ily use of
schools after school. hours.
The change alters the charge
for the use of the facility to a
flat rate rather than the
present actual custodial
overtime charge. -The policy
also permitted school prin-
cipals, in the interest of good
community- relations, to lend
equipment, chairs, tables or
other items from. the school at
no charge understanding that
the borrower- is responsshlc
for any damage and that the
loan is contingent upon the
prompt return of the
equipment at i lime -
designated by the principal
when no overtime charges
would he made to the hoard
for opening the school.

The :Huron County Board of

principle to a request from
Goderich District Collegiate
Institute teacher John
Smallwood to take part in a
one year educational c x-

-} "int; om, mallwooci asked
the board in a letter Monday'
if it would grant him per-
mission to take part in the
program and the -hoard did so
with some concessions.
Director of education John
Cochrane explained to the
hoard •that the exchange
program hinged on
Smallwood's ability to find a
teacher in the United
Kingdom willing to spend a
year teaching' here. A1o:1g
with that the Huron County
Board would have to pay that
teacher's wages for the year
and the hoard Smallwood
worked for in the United
Kingdom would pay his wage.
