Better late than never.
When, the lake freighter
Goderich moored in Goderich
harbor Friday evening the
occasion was honored by the
town as if it had happened
when it was originally sup-
posed to. Jubilee Three
executive Mac Campbell and
mayor Deb Shewfelt went on
board the vessel and
presented her captain, Bob
Fraser, with a Jubilee Three
pen and pencil set.
The presentation was
originally scheduled for July
during the two week 150th
birthday bash Goderich
threw. The freighter was to
have arrived during the
birthday party and spend a
day docked in the harbor to
allow- Interested people to
visit her. The plans fell
through due to business needs
of her owner Upper Lakes
Shipping Limited of Toronto.
The first time the vessel was
able to be routed to Goderich
was Friday when she arrived

Wyandott, Michigan by the
Detroit Shipbuilding Com-
pany. Samuel Mather was her
original name and that was
changed to Pathfinder in 1925.
The vessel has 0 mid

11,700 tons and is- 550 feet
long, has a 60 foot beam and a
31 foot draft, She took on 9,000
tons of salt in Goderich and
cleared harbor bound for
Thunder Bay.
The visit was the second
honor Goderich bestowed
upon the ship. In 1974 Captain
Roy Mundy, a Goderich
native, receitted the silk top
hat from the town for opening
the shipping .season here
