The meeting was Opened with the 4-H Pledge. Helen Brindley read the minutes of last meeting. Roll Call, "Name one fresh Ontario Grown fruit that you have eaten" was answered by the seven members present. Discussion was to pick a name for the Club. The leaders Helen and Nancy Brindley discussed the dif- ferent kinds of fresh fruits. Nancy Brindley demon- strated Fresh Fruit Cup which everyone tasted and said was delicious. The meeting closed with the Creedread by Nanccy Brin- dley 4nd the girls will meet next Monday evening. same place and time. Tiger Dunlop Group 2 led by Mrs. Brenda Thompson and Heather Clark met at the horde of Mrs. Thompson on Monday evening September 26 at 6:30 p.m. The name for their Club was chosen to be "Merry Melons" and inspired the girls to have melon people on their book covers. The girls were quizzed on fresh Ontario and imported fruits and discussed the in- specting and grading of fruits. There was a demon- stration on the correct way to prepare a grapefruit and a fresh fruit cup was demon- strated by Alice Nivins. The fruit cup included many kinds of fresh fruit including limes, avocados, and kiwi fruit and nectarines. The girls all agreed this was very delicious. The meeting then adjourned and. the girls will meet next Monday same place and time. DUNGANNON FAIR Dungannon Fair was held last week with Warden Doug McNeil officially opening it Friday, „Scpto rrl-ber--23rd--a{-• I;-: p.m. Dungannon Calf Club, of which many Colborne boys and girls are members, also made a splendid showing in both Dairy and Beef Classes and considerable praise was given to leaders Bob McNeil and Glen McNeil in the Dairy . class and Ross Eedy and John, Clark in the Beef Class. Working with the 4-H boys and girls started at least the first of May on a monthly basis and this entails work and time. The Judges Ron Shelley from Gorrie for the Beef Classes and Stuart Snale of St. Mary's Area for the Dairy classes did an excellent job showing the girls and boys the good points and poor points in their exhibit and how to perform when showing a calf. In the classes those par- ticipating and in what class were; Dairy class, Junior Heifer, Holstein, Kent Alton, Larry Baer, Jeffrey Feagan, Alice Nivins, Fred Martin, Joyce Dougherty; Dairy class, Senior Heifer Holstein, Kevin Smith, Neil Sager, Brent Van Osch, Jim Van Osch, Brian Van Osch, Ralph Nivins, Brian Sowerby; Champion Dairy Class both Senior and Junior, Keven Smith with runner up - Kent Alton; Beef Junior Heifer Class, Brian Hackett, Gerald Martin; Beef Senior Heifer Class, Brian Johnston; Champion Beef Heifer Class, Brian Johnston with runner up Brian Hackett; Beef, Junior Beef Steer Class, Greg Heather Ann Stapleton, Doug Dougherty, Barry Smyth, Kevin Clark and Heather Clark. It's nice to hear that Mr. and Mrs. Avery have returned home from a four month holiday. They went to Scotland, and spent a week in Wales' where Mrs. Avery was born, then onto the Midland - and the southeast coast of England to visit friends and relatives after an absence of 18 years. Isobel Harris spent a few days in London visiting her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Durin. Elaine Townshend opened her apartment in Clinton for a miscellanous shower for Just like a member of the family MIAs Cheryl Cox on Wednesday evening. Pat Hemingway and Bonnie Cox assisted the bride in opening her gifts and making her a hat and apron of her bows. A surprise gift of the evening was a basket of canned goods with all the labels removed and also a book of recipes of- the -guests: - 1-Tostesses for the evening were Elaine with co -hostesses being Bessie Townshend, Letitia Riddell, Phyllis Cox, Molly Cox and Isobel Harris. The fall dance of the Goderich Township rec committee was held on Saturday evening at the White Carnation with a good attendance. Everyone danced to the music of "Nuthin Fancy" with two spots dances being won by Mr. and Mrs. Case Brand and Mr. and Mrs. Don Forbes. Both couples received apples donated by the Don Middleton farm and cider from Art Bell's or- chards. A draw was made on a hand done quilt made by the ladies of the township's craft group and it was won by Doreen Ducharme of Sarnia. The winning ticket was drawn by Gerry Bornath. Mr., and Mrs. Reid had intended going to Newfoundland this year for a vacation to visit Mr. Reid's mother, a brother who operated a T.V. and small appliance shop and a sister - who all live at Clark's Beach, Conception Bay, about 58 miles from St. Johns, but their plans were hurried up when a week earlier than they had planned leaving, they received word that Mr. Reid's brother had passed away very suddenly. While it was a sad vacation, Mr. Reid was glad to visit with his mother and sister and they report the weather was .just beautiful, with plenty of sunshine, just a' lovely month of September. The sympathy of neighbors and friends is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Reid in"this recent sorrow. Congratulations are in order to Ron McPhee and Debbie Hoy who were married at North St. United Church, Goderich, Saturday September 24. Mrs. Beatrice Geiger of Zurich visited with her sister Mrs. Gordon Kaitting and Mr. Kaitting over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Kellestine of Sunset Beach Road were pleased to have their daughter, Donna, who is attending Conestoga College in Guelph, home for the week end and- their son Don, who has been a patient in St. Joseph Hospital, London, home again. Mrs. Les. Pitbaado, Sunset Beach Road is a patient in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital having u gone surgery. Mr. Frank Sutton of Huron Haven is a patient in University Hospital, London. Mr. Gibson of Meneset Park has also been a patient in University Hospital. Mr. Clifford Bates, known to several when he was at the Provincial Park, is in hospital in Guelph having suffered a heart attack.
