Mustangs outplay Seaforth 4-3
By Bryan Marriage
Aggressive hockey's back
in town was the term used.
last Sunday night as the
Clinton. Mus.tangs_.outhit and
.outscored the Seaforth
Centenaires by a score of 4-3.
The Mustangs, under new
coach Dan Colquhaun, had
little trouble controlling the
game as they outshot their
oppo.nents 44-17.
Although the Stangs had
only five players from last
year's team dressed, in-
cluding goaltender Jurgen
Hellman, the new crop of
rookies looked pretty
aggressive.
Clintons big line for the
game consisted of Peter
Thompson centering Billy
Smith and Larry Madge.
Thompson'notched a pair of
goals and an assist, while
Madge fired a, single and
received two assists, Smith
had a pair of assists also. The
other Clinton goal carne from
the stick of Steve Daveys.
Clinton led the game after
one period by, a score ,of 2-1
and then led 3-1 after the
second period. -.:-
Clinton's next exhibition
game will he- played this
Friday night at 8:30 p.m. in
Mitchell against the same
Seaforth team and some of
the other Mustangs are ex-
pected to see some action.
Then on Sunday afternoon,
also in Mitchell, the Mustangs
will take -on the Mitchell
Hawks.
The Mustangs season
opener will be played in
Kincardine on Friday, Oct. 7
and then on Oct. 14th the
Stangs will host last year's
defending Champions,
Listowel Cyclones.
Former Clinton Mustang
and Central Jr. "C" leading
scorer Robert 1-leard will be
missed this year as Rob is
now playing for Petrolia Jets
of the Western Jr. "B"
league.

trail Harriston by ode game
in the WOAA championship
after dropping a 3-0 decision
in the first game of the best -
0f -five series played at
Agriculture Park Tuesday.'
The second game of the
series will be played in
Harriston tonight and the
third game is scheduled for

W inning pitcher Tracey
Williamson broke open a
scoreless game by slamming
a three -run homer in the top
of the seventh inning to
centrefield. The blast scored
teammates Julie Arthers and
Kim Wick who had reached
base with a single and walk
respectively.
The game was a pitching
duel between Williamson and
Goderich pitcher Denise
Mitchelmore. Each pitcher
was touched for three hits but
Mitchelmore issued four
walks and Williamson two.
Both teams had their
'chances to score early in the
game, capitalizing on errors,
but- solid defensive plays
snuffed potential rallies.
Karen Melady of Goderich
was thrown out at the plate
after attempting to score on a
two -out single by Anne Marie
Murphy in the third.
Sandra Rowe led the
Goderich offence with two
hits in three trips to the plate
including a triple in the fourth
inning. She reached third
base twice in the game hut
was left stranded on both
occasions. Three players had
one hit apiece for Harriston.

a best -of -three playoff series.
They edged St. Marys 5-1 in
the first game in St. Marys
and then clinched the
championship with an 11-7
win in Goderich.
The girls put together a
better than .500 season in
league play this year winning
nine games against eight
losses and one tie. But the
team put it together in the
playoffs disposing of Mitchell
in two straight games in the
first round by scores of 7-3
and 8-1 and then advanced to
final by knocking off Kirkton
in similar fashion by scores of
7-5 and 9-5.
Goderich took an early lead
in the first game of the series
against St. Marys scoring two
runs in the first inning. Joni
Thompson led off the inning
with a single and scored on
Rowe's triple. Murphy then
delivered a key two -out single
to score Rowe.
