Colborne couple cele
U.C.W.
The U.C.W. of Benmiller
--United Church held their
main U.C.W. meeting in the
church on September 7 at 2
p.m. The Maitland Unit was
in charge with Mrs. George
McBride presenting
devotions, opening the
meeting with prayer and one
minute silence for special
prayer for those who are sick
and in . ne and . scripture
taken frort t. Marks Gospel.
The business was attended
to with special item„6. The
U:C.W. will be holding a Fowl
Supper in Benmiller United
Church on October 19 with
settings at 5:30 and 7 p.m,
tickets being adults ,$4 and
children under 12 years $2
with Mrs. Wood and Mrs.
Hazel McMichael in charge of
the tickets. Another item of
business was the Anniversary
Service of the Church which
will be on September 18 with a
special invitation to the
congregation of Victoria St.
United Church and an in-
vitation to former ministers
with Rev. Hazelwood, a
former minister, as the guest
speaker. Service will be at 11
a.m. and after the service
there will be a social get-
together. As this promises to
be a very special day wher
former members and friends
gather to hear a former
minister and observe the
anniversary, make -plans now
to attend.
The next main U.C.W.
meeting will be in November
with the Benmiller Unit in
charge.

The September meeting
Tiger Dunlop Women's
Institute will be held in
Colborne Township Hall
Thursday, September 22 at
1:45 p.m. The London Area
Women's Institute sixty-third
annual convention will be
held at the Sandpiper Inn,
Vanastra on September 28
and 29. There are several
items of business requiring
attention.
The topic for the meeting
will be Agriculture _ and
Canadian..- -Industries- with
Mrs. Wilmer Hardy in
charge. She plans to give an

Agriculture and Canadian
Industries in the Western
Provinces and the Yukon
which should be of special
interest to all.
Members please note the
change in time. It's an af-
ternoon meeting instead of an
evening meeting as planned
and don't forget something
for the craft display. Plan to
attend.
Softball
The teams are in the semi
finals and playoffs. The
senior girls defeated Stanley
36-12 and this is the first game
of the semi finals.
In the second game Ben-
, flier midget boys defeated
Goderich Township 12-5 and
in the final game on Sunday.
le boys lost 3-0. This
eliminates Colborne in the
playoffs.
Colborne B tyke boys
defeated Colborne A 17-15, so
Colborne B receives the
hampionship in this division.
Matt. Wiikinson
wins library prize
Huron County Public
Library recently sponsored a
book draw contest at the
Goderich Branch. The winner
was Matthew Wilkinson.
A number of children
participated in the children's
programs this year. The
Library staff looks forward to
a busy fall. Regular
children's program for
children ,ages 4 - 12 have
begun atthe Goderich Branch
at 10:30 a.m. each Saturday.
Program includes stories and
crafts.
Aspiring writers will he
interested to know that the
Dorothy Shoemaker contest
for Poetry and Prose closes
October 1. Winners in Huron
County last year were Anne
Marie Shanahan, Patti Task()
and Darryl Fox. For more
information on upcoming
activities contact the
Goderich Branch.
The University of Western
Ontario is offering courses in
psychology, sociology,
English, philosophy," history
and politics. The politics
course is at Goderich
Collegiate Thursday at 6:30
p.m. beginning September 15.
Reading books for this course
have been deposited at the
Goderich Branch . by the
University of Western
Ontario,
Recently Huron County
received microfilm of two
newspapers; the Clinton
News Era and the Huron
News Record up to 1900. They
are deposited at the Goderich
Branch.
Since the formation of
"Friends of the Library", a
number of persons have
inquired whether they could
join the group. There will be a
general meeting for all those
interested on Monday,
October 17 at 8 p.m. at the
Goderich Branch, -52 Mon-
treal Street. Bring along a
friend and your ideas.

Mr. and Mrs. Timothy
Chapman, RR 3, celebrated
their 25th wedding an-,
niversary on Monday Sep-
tember 5 when ap
proximately 150 friends and
their family gathered to
celebrate with them. -Folks
were there from Toronto,
Sarnia, London, Aylmer,
Detroit, Windsor and Nova
Scotia. It was a surprise
party providing a delicious
buffet dinner including
lobster and a clam bake
outside which . the Nova
Scotians were in charge of.
This was a celebration
which will long be remem-
bered by Mr. and Mrs.
,
rates 25th anniversary
Chapman who were married
25 years ago September 8 in
Sarnia. Their neighbours and
friends in Colborne Township
join in wishing them many
more happy years of married
life:
Several of our Colborne
Township and former
residents have been enjoying
-holiday trips seed It is
-reported that Mr. and Mrs.
Wilmer Hardy of Goderich
have returned home from a
'wonderful trip west. They
flew to Edmonton where they
were joined by their son John
and then flew on to
Whitehorse where they
rented a car and drove to
Dawson. They stayed there a

few days where they had a
splendid time even to panning
for gold. They took the ferry
across the Yukon river and
then travelled by car on the
"Top of the World" highway
into Alaska. This was very
thrilling and excitingand a
wonderful extra to the trip.
They then travelled down the
Alaska Highway back to
Whitehorse and then 'home. It
was a trip they shall long
remember 'and _ they took
quite a few slides to, show
their friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh
MacCrostie have returned
from an enjoyable holiday
spent in British Columbia
with their daughter Ann4ette.
They, flew to Vancouver and
on to Prince George where
they met their daughter and
from there on motored
throughout the Province.
They spent several days in
Granisle where . their
daughter has been teaching.
They also visited at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
French in Vanderhoof.
After travelling by Jasper
and Banff they attended the
wedding reception...in Vernon
of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne
Ralston (nee Wanda Lippert,
Lucknow) where other
Goderich and Lucknow
friends were also guests.
At Vancouver they called
on Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred
Pickett .(ne.e Velma Wheeler,
Belgrave). At Nanaimo they
visited Mr. and Mrs. Tony
Pearson a former Goderich
resident.
Annette remained in
Victoria where she will attend
University this year. They
reported a wonderful holiday
trip and enjoyed meeting old
friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Clements of Saltford have
_returned from a pleasant
camping holiday.
Terry and Tracy Clegg and
a friend Tyler Pope from
King City, have been visiting
with their grandparents Mr.
and Mrs. Larry Harrison,
Saltford.
Miss Donna Kellestine,
Sunset Beach- Road, has
enrolled at Conestoga
College, Guelph.
The community is pleased
to report John Proctor of
Sunset Beach Road. who has
been a patient in Victoria
Hospital, London, is
recovering . favorably and
expects to be home this week.
Also Mr. Ted Cook, High=
way 21 who has been in
Goderich Hospital having
suffered a fractured kneeand
broken toes has recuperated
-
satisfactorily to be able to be
home.
Mr. Larry Harrison of
Saltford, who has been in
London Hospital has returned
home and is making a speedy
recovery.
From time to time several
Colborne residents--are-in-the
hospital and their many
friends sincerely wish them
improved health. As you read
this, silently offer a prayer
for the many you know that
haven't been mentioned. Send
them a card or make a visit.
Let them know you care.
The sympathy of the
community is extended to the
family of the late Mrs. R.
Cannon, Sunset Beach Road.
