Soccer teams to corripete for pups BY JIM KINGSLEY Last week, all divisions -of minor soccer wound up their regular season play. All .teams will now play in elimination round to corn- pete for cups previously used for runner-up teams. The teams which ended the regular season in first place will a Iso receive a cup. In the Bantam division Goderich hosted a team from St. Clair Shores. Off the field we showed our American friends good Canadian hospitality but on the field we put them down to.a 5-1 score. The Pee Wee team ran into two tough games last week losing 5-1 to St. Columban and 3-1 to Clinton. The superb play usually supplied by Mike Wedlock was sorely missed as Mike was unable to play in either game. Dave McDonald scored the goal against Clinton. The Atom "A" team lost to Clinton by the score of 3-1 but still 'managed to take third spot in the final standings. The Atom "B" team defeated the Clinton B team 4- 2 to pull into a tie for fifth spot. Grant Williamson t 1 notched' three goals while Todd Gilchrist and Ken Huff scored the. remainders. The Atom "B" 's were a much improved team in the second half of the season and could just pull off some surprises in the play-offs. The R.A.W. Mosquito Blue Jays fought their way to a 5-3 win over Seaforth• last Saturday even though they had been trailing 1-0 at half time. Jeff Denomme ac- counted forthree goals while Daryl Madge and Mark Crawford scored the other two. Last Thursday the Blue Jays .played their usual good game but unfortunately this time it was not quite good enough as they went down to defeat 3-0 against a very strong St. Columban team. I would like to thank Mery Witter for a good job of refereeing both games and also to congratulate the Blue Jays on their second place finish. The Goderich Squirts played the strongest game of the season heating Grand Bend 4-2 after trailing 2-1 at half-time. The Squirt team ended the regular season in fourth place.
