Re l0A Hien movement have borne fruit, in he form orient legislation. ximately 70 percent e agreements in expired ti April, industry elarge segments of the industry are working without contracts. Most of the renewals have been for a period of only one year, expiring in April 1978. We are in sympathy with those people who have called, written -and telegraphed, urging that the Bill Should be passed to ' allow sufficient time for the parties_" con- cerned to make adequate preparation for 197g negotiations. Committee meetings are being held on the legislation, which will enable people wishing to have further input to make submissions. It is to be hoped that this process can be completed in time to allow the Bill to be passed early in the Fall session, enabling 1979 negotiations to be completed on time. At present, meetings of the Resources Development Committee on Bill 22 are. scheduled as follows: Sep- tember 6th and 7th, Red Oak Inn, Thunger Bay; Sep- tember 7th and 8th, President Motor Hotel, Sudbury; September 13th, Holiday Inn, Lc ndon; September 14th, Inn of the Provinces, Ottawa; Septerh-b.w; 21st and 22nd, Superior Room, MacDonald Block, Queen's Park, Toronto. Some of the matters which we believe should he dealt with at these Committee meetings are the concern of smaller union locals that their autonomy may vanish; the examination of how similar legislation lia,s worked in other provinces; and .careful consideration of GOQER'ICH 'IGNAL-STAR, THURSDAY, SEPTEMfER O,1 an ernplojer co-ordinating We believe that the CotYPN. make sure t ai4ency.
