The Christmas Country
Fair to be held in Saltford
Valley Hall, on Wednesday,
October 12 and Saturday
October 15 promises to be a
wonderful shopping tour for
housewives and gift seekers
alike with all the goodies that
will be obtainable at the bake
_table. the jams and jellies and
pickles and various
preserves, the lovely gift
articles and the many things
that you will just want for
yourself. As in former years,
that wonderful display of
market gardening giving you
everything , from fresh
flowers to vegetables and
even pumpkins for pies and
for your children for
Halloween, will be waiting for
you at the entrance to the hall
or easy to pick up when you
are through with your pur-
chasing inside. Be sure to
attend the Country Fair and
stock up on many goodies end
lovely gifts.
There was a splendid
community shower in Carlow
Township Hall Monday
evening August 29 when
friends of Agnes Marie
Brindley (nee Cardiff)
gathered to extend
congratulations. All present
enjoyed some special con-
tests during the first part of
the evening with some of the
winners being Mrs. Clem
Desjardines of Goderich, and
Faye Ribey with mystery cup
prire . going to Rubena
Brindley.
After everyone enjoyed a
pleasing entertainment, the
bride was ushered to a special
chair where she received the
many beautiful and useful
gifts. She was assisted in
opening them by her maid of
honor and bridesmaid.
Agnes thanked all her
friends and invited them to
the open reception in
Lucknow Arena. A.""dainty
lunch was served.
Mrs. Herman Schoemaker
and daughters Patty and
Elizabeth, and sister-in-law
Mrs. Bernie Kolkman all of
Saltford, and sister Mrs. Jack
Chambers of Goderich, have
returned from a 24 day motor
trip to the West, visiting her
daughter Linda, Mr. and Mrs.
Rick Bisset and daughters
Jennifer and baby Alysia of
Milk River Area, Albert, and
a brother Bill and Cynthia
Kolkman and family of
Coaldale, Alberta. They
report they really enjoyed the
trip and said the mountains
were just something. They
were very impressed with

90th birthday
Relatives, friends and
'neighbors were welcomed at
North Street United ,Church
parlor on Saturday, August
27, by Mrs, William T.
Sallows, her family and her
sister, Mrs. Newman
Wellwood, the occassion
being the 90th birthday of
Mrs. Sallows.
The parlow was beautifully
decorated with floral
arrangements received by
the guest of honor and the
table. was appropriately
decorated with yellow and
white candles and a floral
centrepiece to match.
Members of the afternoon
unit of the U.C,W., of which
Mrs. Sallows is a member,
poured tea and served
'refreshments, Her three
great-granddaughters,
Audrey and Tracy 'Baxter
and Deanna McTaggart were
in charge of the guest book.
Mrs. Sallows, the former
Elizabeth 'Courtney, was
born in Huron Township on
August 28, 1887, to Patrick
and Elizabeth (Chisholm)
Courtney. She was one of
twelve children, She was
married on December 27, 1911
to William Sallows who
predeceased her on January
2, 1957. Mr. and Mrs.
ASallows lived in Colborne
township until his death. Mrs.
Sallows then moved to
Goderich in 1958.
. She has two daughters,
Mrs, 1-larvey Baxter and Mrs.'
Franklin Mitchell bath of
Goderich; three grand-
children, Gordon Baxter of
Wingham, Ray Baxter of
Brantford and Mrs. Scott
McTaggart of "London, seven
great-grandchildren; one
sister, Mrs. Newman
Wellwood; and one brother
John of Regina, Saskat-
chewan.
Mrs. Saliows has main-
tained a keen interest in
church, political, and com-
minity affairs. She is still
enjoying good health and
keeping active making quilts,
a life time hobby. She enjoys
having relatives, friends and
neighbours drop in.
Many cards, gifts and
telegrams were received and
are cherished as thoughtful
memories of all those who
r•ememhet`ed her.
