Coyotes slammed 16-4 in slow pitch final
The Goderich Coyotes put
together some tight defence
at the right times and
grabbed a pair of one run
victories to win a berth in the
slow pitch, championship
game in the Labor Day
Fastball tournament on the
Wingham short Stop Bob Pegg was selected as the Goderich Labor. Day Fastball Tour-

Jackie Kerr was Allen Tigert's lucky lady on Labor Day when the youngster drew Tigert's
name from the barrel announcing him as the winner of a hind of beef. The draw for the
beef was staged just prior to the Labor Day Fastball tournament grand championship
game Monday night and was sponsored by the Lakeport Steelers. Overseeing the draw is

Dashwood 6-5 and Wingham . second to cut that lead in half.
4-3 to get to the final but were Cam MacDonald and Barry

the final five innings. Win-
throp added a run in the
second, one in the third and
two in the fourth• before
Goderich got on the board.
In the fifth Frank Hagan
singled to lead off and used an
error to get to second. With
two out Gerald Morgan
singled hint to third and an
error put the Coyotes'on the
score sheet. Morgan scored
on a single by Ken Fagan
before Winthrop ended the
rally.
The Warriors replied in the
sixth with another four runs
to boost their total to 16 and
the Coyotes scored two in the
sixth to prove they had some
ability. •The win put $100 in
Winthrop pockets and gave
the Coyotes $50 for their
trouble.
In the first game of the•
tourriey the Coyotes spotted
Dashwood a 4-0 lead after one
in the fifth inning to bring the
Coyotes to within one and a
two run rally in the sixth
scored the tying and winning
markers.
In the second game of their
tourney action the Coyotes
posted a 4-0 lead over
Goderich Coyote captain Ken Fagan accepts the runner-

Buttenham hammered a two
run shot to tie the game. Dick
Snyder singled to start the
inning and Langlois managed
two outs before Buttenham
jumped .on hire for the round
tripper. `
Badenoch won the game in
the sixth, on an error. Ron
Inglis singled to start things
off but was nailed on a
fielder's ohoice • to Larry
Inglis, Larry stole second,
moved to third on an error to
catcher Rick Duckworth and
scored on a shot by Allan
Wigood. Right fielder Lee
Arbour misplayed the hall
and Inglis scored and Wigood
went to third: Snyder forced
another error that allowed

and with men on first and
second Don Johnston
managed .to get the third out
to preserve the win and send
his club to the final.
In earlier slow pitch action
the Goderich Paper Leafs
were edged by Zurich 7-5
after posting a three run lead,
Zurich put their bats to use in
the late innings to tie the
gameandtake a lead of 7-3 to
the tbp of the seventh. The
Leafs scored twice and left
the tying run at the plate
before Zurich managed to end
the game. --
The Goderich Firemen
jumped to a 2-0 lead in their
first tour"ney game with
Wingham but the Wingham
defence played six scoreless
innings and posted fourruns
to dump the firemen 4-2. In
the first Fred Armstrong and
Don Masse • scored for the
Firemen but the • lead was
shortlived. Wingham struck
once' in the fourth and once in
the sixth to tie the game and
won it with a two run burst in
the seventh.
