I am having a terrible time
with millimeters. and stuff
like that there!
Inches I can judge quite
closely - even feet and yards
arse nearly, accurate by. my
guess system - but the metric
-1 just,draw a blank.
Is it that I don't want to be
blithered figuring it out?

What an attitude to take! I
KNOW we have changed
over, we need to have a world
wide standard of
measurement - I had run into
that part of the problem
during World War 2 - my, but
I'm right in there this mor-
ning - first thing you, know I'll
be talking kilometers and
such things!
Kilometers - that's one
word I was quickly pulled up
on some years ago. My
younger son, wife and family
had just returned from four
- years overseas and were
right up there with German,
French and „the pronunciation
of kilometers. "Not kill -o -
meters Grandma. I was
haven't forgotten it. Now my
only problem is tostart-using
it

Oh, I had looked up the report
of Chir,• our weatherman,
because someone told me we
had had almost two feet of
rainfall a'nd I couldn't believe
it. So I find the report had
said in part - "In one five

ADELBERT (DEL)
GARDNER
Adelbert (Del) Gardner
died on Friday, August 19 in
Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital after a short
illness. He was 89 years of
age.
He was born to John and
Elizabeth (Hamilton) Gar-
dner in Goderich Township on
August 25, 1887. He was a life
long resident and farmer in
Goderich Township., until
moving to Goderich 21 years
ago.
Since moving to Goderich,
the late Mr. Gardner had
been actively engaged in
training and racing horses.
' He , was a member of the
Canadian Trotting
Association.
He was predeceased by his
wife Florence (Perdue) and
one son, rack Gardner.
He is survived by one son,
William L. Gardner of
Goderich; one daughter, Mrs.
Cameron (Joyce) Thomson of
Trenton; six grandchildren
and 13 great-grandchildren.
The Reverend G.L.Royal
conducted a funeral service
at McCallum Funeral Home
on Monday, August 22 at 1:30
p. m.
Interment was in the
Maiotlanj1 Cemetery,
Goderich.
Pallbearers were Bill
Gardner, Paul Gardner,
Larry Drew, Bill Fritzley,
Bud Sheardown and Ron
McGee.
MRS. CLARA PHILLIPS
Clara Phillips formerly of
Colborne Township died on
Tuesday, August 16 in Adrian,
Michigan at the age of 88.
She was born in Ontario on
October 14, 1888 to Elizabeth
(Slee) and Thomas "Pen-
nington.
She married Emerson
Phillips and moved to Adrian,
Michigan.
She was predeceased by
her husband on September 3,
1976. She was also
predeceased by one brother
and two sisters.
She. is survived by one
stepson, Donald Phillips of
Marshall, Michigan; one
stepdaughter, Mrs. George
(Doris) Gobba of Adrian,
Michigan; four step -
grandchildren and two step -
great -grandchildren.
Immediate treatment is
available to an injured
worker if there are trained
First Aiders on-the-job. St.
John Ambulance says,
prompt treatment of an in-
jury can reduce the time an
employee is lost to his firm
because of an accident.
The late Mrs. Phillips
rested at Braun Funeral
Home in Adrian, Michigan.
Stiles Funeral Home was in
charge of funeral
arrangements in Goderich.
Interment was in Colborne
Cemetery where the Rev.
G.L. Royal conducted a
graveside service on Friday,
August 19 at 11 a.m.
MISS VERA
VICTORIA GOOD
Vera Victoria Good of 80
Picton Street East, in
Goderich died suddenly in
Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital on Thur-
sday, August 18 at theage of
81. She was born in.Benmiller
on May 24, 1896 to Emma
(Killips) and Edward Good.
She lived in Colborne
Township until moving to
Goderich 30 years ago.
She was a member of
Victoria Street United
Church.
She is survived by three
sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Good of
Goderich, Mrs. Sarah
Brownlee of Sault Ste. Marie
and Mrs. Mabel Gibbs of
Windsor. She is also survived
by two nieces and three
nephews.
The Rev. G.L. Royal
conducted a funeral service
at Stiles Funeral Home on
Monday, August 22 at 2 p.m.
Interment was in Colborne
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Marvin,
Keith, Elwyn and Ernest
Good, Harold Chambers and
Roy Mugford.

and was ordained by Bishop
Kidd May 26, •1934.
Father Moynahan also
served as parish priest in All
Saints Church, Strathroy,
1944-59 and St. Mary's
Woodstock, 1934-44.
Father Loebach, presently
the pastor of Blessed
Sacrament Parish, London
was ordained in St. Peter's
Cathedral, London, by Bishop
Kidd. in 1947.
Father Loebach was parish
priest at St. Michael's London
following his ordination until
1948 when he took post
graduate work at Capital
University in Washington.
He taught at St. Peter's
Seminary from 1950-68 and
was pastor of St. Cecilia
Church, Port Dover from
1968-71 and then served as
pastor of Blessed Sacrament
Church in Monk ton from 1971-
77.

Warrilow (right) presents Mr. and Mrs. Alton Matthews of
Goderich with airline tickets for a two week all expenses"'
paid trip to Copenhagen in March 1978. The Matthews -Will:,
also receive $500 spending money as part of their prize for
winning the Old Timers' draw. They will make the trip in
conjunction with the Goderich Old Timers' trip to
Copenhagen where the team will play in a hockey tour-,.'
