west of Clinton, after car driven by
Allen Savauge, 18, of 51 John Street,
Seaforth came around the bend towards
Clinton at a high rate of speed, -just
missed four big trees and rolled over,

For most of us vacations are over and unmistakable
signs of fall are appearing. But fall has its compensations
- Fall Fairs. Lucknow fair is the end of September;
Ripley and Teeswater fairs are at Thanksgiving;
Colborne' Township's Christmas Country Fair will be
held in the Saltford Valley Hall Wednesday, October 12
and Saturday October 15; and. the Hanover Annual Craft
Show and Sale is being held in the Royal Canadian Legion
Canadiana Room Saturday, October 29. These fairs are
always worth a visit and are a good place to start
Christmas shopping.
Other events taking place in the near future are: the
125th Flower Show will be held August 27 and 28 in con-
junction with the city's Centennial Celebrations and the
Glenhurst Arts Council of Brantford are holding the
Glenhurst Area Jury Show August 12 to September 4.
Grand Bend: The Huron Country Playhouse is
presenting the comedy See How They Run August 23 to
27.
Niagara on the Lake: The Millionairess is playing. The
Shaw Festival ends October 2.
Stratford: Two plays opened in August, Much Ado
About Nothing and As You Like It. Hay Fever, a comedy
by the late Noel Coward opens September 27. At the
Gallery in Stratford, with the co-operation of the
Stratford Festival, is a costume display, Made Glorious:
Stage Design at Stratford, an exhibition drawn from the
costume properties warehouse. Over 50 costumes are
featured showing the development and changes in design
over 25 years, with a demonstration of designing a
costume and then putting -it together. Also at the Gallery
is an Outdoor Sculpture show.
London: At the Art Gallery White Paintings, recent
paintings and drawings by John Noestheden will be
displayed to August 28. Toiler Cranston and The IceShow
will be in London for one night only September 16.
St. Marys: A display of work by local Perth County
artists is at the Perth County Gallery.
Blyth : At the Blyth Memorial Hall for ten days starting
today the Theatre Passe Muraille present a comedy He
Won't Come In From The Barn, and here's something
different because also on stage will be two cows, three
pigs and a rooster.
Toronto: At the Forum, Ontario Place; The Central
Band of the Canadian Forces will play to August 28. The
Royal Alex presents Same Time Next Year, with Bar-
bara Rush and Torn Troupe from August 15th "September
10. September 14 to October 29 at the O'Keefe Centre,
there are four new productions by the Canadian Opera
Company, Verdi's Don Carlos, Mozart's The Magic
Flute, Donizetti's Daughter of the Regiment and Woz-
zeck by Berg. Also in Toronto at Massey Hall the
Beethoven Music Festival is on from September 8 to
October 1.5. Each Thursday, Friday and Saturday
evening for six weeks the Toronto Symphony are
presenting music by Beethoven conducted by Klaus
Tennstedt, Andrew Davis and Erich LeinSdorf. Ontario
Crafts 77 will be on view at the Canadian National
Exhibition to Septemfier 5.
Petrplia: At the Victoria Playhouse Royal . Per-
formance from ' eptember 30 to October 9, a music
festival is on featuring the Canadian Brass, Karen Kain,
Frank Augustyn, Kiona Boyd, Algoma Festival Opera,
Monique Leyrac and others.
It is hoped that you will be able to attend some of th6se
events and enjoy them. If you know of any upcoming
events that can be added to future columns, please call or
drop into the Goderich Public Library on Montreal Street
or phone 524-9261. Programs, etc. are displayed on the
Calendar of the Arts notice board in the library.
