History was\gte theme of the
annual Curators meeting of
the 'London Area of the
Women's Institutes of Ontario
when they met last Tuesday
in St. George's Anglican
Parish Hall, in Goderich. The
Huron West District was the
Host District and the District
Curator Mrs. Celia Taylor of
Goderich welcomed the
guests and curators present.
The chairman was Mrs.
Herbert Jackson of Fingal,
the London Area Curator. She
welcomed the 48 guests and
curators and the meeting was
opened with the WI Ode, the
Mary Stewart Collect and 0
Canada with Mrs. Celia
Taylor as pianist. The
minutes of the 1976 meeting
held at Tillsonburg were read
by the secretary, Mrs.
Leonard Johnson of Kerwood.
Mrs. Taylor introduced the
rector's warden of St.
George's Anglican Church,.
Mr. John McGibbon who
welcomed all and spoke of the
work of the late. Lady
Tweedmuir who encouraged
the Women's Institutes to
start their Tweedsmuir
History • Books. He corgi'=

excellent _„ work they were
doing;W.o:?presirve Canadian
History.
Mrs. Graham McNee of
Dungannon, president of
Huron West brought
greetings as did Mrs. Allan
Schram, president of the
Goderich Branch. The roll
call revealed that a great deal
of work has been done with
the books in the tetrDistricts
whicho-include, Elgin East,
Elgin West, Huron South,
Middlesex East, Middlesex
West, Middlesex North,
Oxford North, Oxford South,
Perth South and Huron West.
Each curator told of the work
done in their branches which
number 132 in the London
Area.
As a new book is needed, a
discussion was held and
many ideas were brought
forth from a needlepoint
cover to leather and wood.
The executive will decide on
the type which would prove
most satisfactory.
Since a new secretary was
needed through illness, Mrs.
Norman Coulthard of St.
Paul's was, named the new
secretary. Tea and coffee
were served by Mrs. Fordyce
Clark of Goderich, Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt, of Auburn,
and Mrs. Frank Yeo of
Qoderich Township W.I.
Following lunch a con-
ducted tour of St. George's
Anglican Church was taken
with Mrs. Malcolm Campbell
of Goderich as the guide. This
church was erected in 1881
with its beautiful glass
windows and the structure is
truly an • historical spot in
Goderich.
The guest speaker of the
afternoon was the provincial
curator, Mrs. R.C. Walker of
St. George who stressed the
importance of the Tweed-
smuir History Books in
nearly" all communities in
Ontario and now across
Canada. She paid tribute to
the late Lady Tweedsmuir
who stressed the importance
of recording early Canadian
history in the small com-
munities across the
provinces.
The Ministry of Education
are acknowledging the im-
portance of these books for
students in all levels of
schooling. Microfilming of
these books are being done
free of -charge and the
originals are being placed in
libraries. This service is
being ' supplied by the
Ministry of Agriculture and
Food. Mrs. Walker stated
that the _ -pages of the -book-
should be laminated or have
plastic covering for the pages.
to prevent soil.
The project now is House
Logs which is the history of
your house and will remain in
the house for future
generations. It should contain
the names of owners, dates
and all facts about each
member, all changes in the
structure of the house and
when new additions ' are
made. Mrs. Walker com-
mented on several that were
on display from different
districts.
In closing, Mrs. Walker
thanked all for their co-
operation during her past 23
years as she is retiring this
November and a new
provincial curator will be
chosen.
The curators of the London Convention Area of the Women's
Institutes. of Ontario held a workshop in St. George's
Anglican Church Parish Hall in Goderich on Tuesday,
August B. The theme was the making of House Logs and the
