Sewing is Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock's first love. Several yearsago she worked as a seam-
stress for the County Sheepskin Company making sheepskin coats. When she is not sewing
and designing, Mrs. Bradnock is busy with her Auburn news write-up"s for the Goderich,
Clinton and Blyth papers. She is also an active member of the Women's Institute and the
Women's Missionary Society. (staff photo)
Make the best of it
This is the second in a
series about the Signal -
Star's district
correspondents.
BY JOANNE WALTERS
Mrs: Eleanor Bradnock of
Auburn has faced . a .lot of
hardships in her life time. She
has known the heartache of
losing all of her possessions in
fire. She has had to cope with
the..death,;of her husband. And
she has known the 'difficulty
of:. trying to scrape enough
money • together to try to
make ends meet. But Mrs.
Bradnock has learned how to
take things in stride. She lives
each day as she comes to it.
She feels that by experiencing
so many hardships she, has
become closer to people. She
has discovered people in her
community to be helpful and
caring and she in turn tries to
Rye by The Golden Rule..
"You might as well just
make the best of life as you go
along," Mrs. Bradnock
philosophizes. "There's no
use stewing and fretting.
What is to be is to be. I've had
to.,live without certain things.
but I've learned to."
Mrs. Bradnock certainly.
does not have time to stew
and fret. She is so active that
the only time she seems to sit
down is when she sews' or
writes *her Auburn news.

writing the Auburn news
because "it keeps.me in touch -
with people". She calls people

and attends a lot of meetings.
She feels that it is important
to attend meetings and to
belong to things in order to
get the news pertinent to her
column.
Mrs. Bradnock belongs to
many activities. The list is
endless. In thepast she has
been a 4-H leader and a CGIT

of the Presbyterian Women's

Canada. She has served four
years as the president of the
Huron Presbyterial WMS.
She is one of the original 4-H

In April of this year I sent
money to a stamp firm in the
States for a special offer. The
ad. claimed that. this was a
limited offer, but I've received
absolutely nothing, in spite of
the fat that I've written
repeateiy and demanded my
money back.
Can IMPACT help me
please? -
We wrote the firm in
question and have received
word back, that your order
was apparently misplaced.
That explanation may well
be the reason that you didn't
receive what you paid for, but
it certainly doesn't explain
why you got no
acknowledgement from your
many letters.
However, all's well that
ends well, and by now you
should have received your
refund, in full, along with
their, "most sincere
apologies."

1 never ever thought that I'd
be the one who would ever
buy, "a pig in the poke," so to
'speak, but alas, I succumbed
to a very tempting advertising
promotion.
1 wanted to pay COD for
some big band records from.
an American mail order firm,
but wastold it was cash with
order, and as you've probably
guessed by now, my money
order has been cashed long
ago and still no big band
records have arrived.
I've sent them letters in-
cluding a registered one but
nothing happens!
We have received word that
your records have now been
shipped ... they apologize for
the long delay, but claim that
the response to this offer was
so tremendous, that they were
caught unawares, hence the
slow delivery. •

In view of the many letters
we get concerning mail order
houses we are reprinting an
excerpt from one of our
columns, which may help
some readers:
IMPACT can only contact
these firms hoping to speed up
delivery, sometimes a little
extra pressure helps, but alas
there are many instances
where our letters too, are
completely ignored,
especially by firms located on
the other side of the border.
We must point out to our
readers, that although the
majority of these firms are
classed as legitimate, in a
great many cases their
business ethics leave much
"to be desired." A number of
these firms DO NOT HAVE
the advertised item stocked in
sufficient quantities, they
order AFTER receiving •
money from people respon-
ding to their advertising
promotion.
