(staff photo) Diamonds make move The Goderich Blues Diamonds moved into fifth place in .the Ladies Recreational League stan- dings with two victories in their last two games. The Diamonds backed up a solid pitching performance by Diane_ Glousher with good defensive play as they defeated the Clinton Sluggers 7 - 3 in a league game played at Agriculture Park August 3. The Sluggers scored a run in the second inning and added a second run in the top of the third to take a two run lead. The Diamonds got untracked in the fourth inning scoring four runs and then added three more in the fifth for the twin. The Sluggers scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth. Sylvia Harmon, Karen Pond, Dawn Oke, Sue Kolk- man and Joanne Chambers led the attack with two hits each. Pond, Kolkman and Chambers also scored two runs. The Diamonds overcame a first inning two -run deficit exploding for eight runs in the second inning enroute t� a 15 - 4 victory over the Goderich Sailorettes in a league game played at Agriculture Park August 10. The Sailorettes grabbed a quick two -run lead in the top The Goderich Township slowpitch teams are evidently enjoying playing baseball this summer. On • Friday, Aug. 5, two Holmesville teams challenged each other - the outcome .is not known but they did have fun. On Sunday Aug. 7, the Goderich township slowpitch team -lost 14-8 to the Benmiller Junior Foresters. The Junior girls lost to Benmiller, while the senior girls game was rained out. The junior boys A team was also rained out, and the B' team 1 ost to Varna. The senior boys were a little more successful, with the senior boys 'A' team beating Lon- desboro 9 - 8 and the senior B team defeating Varna 17-16. The conveners of the different townships met on August 8 and drew up the playoff schedule. The Pee Wee girls play against, Colborne "B" and lost their first game, so are hoping for a win this week. The Midget girls got off to a better start by doWning Auburn 25-6. They are hoping to make it two in a row this week at Auburn. The Pee Wee boys "B" team drew a bye in the semi finals, while the "A" team defeated Auburn by default. The Midget boys "A" won over Auburn in a good game Sunday 14-10. The "B" team played Monday night against Londesboro winning a close contest 11-10. Games are being set up between the two coaches whenever diamond space is available. For further in- formation regarding times and place contact either the coach or myself and we will try and be of help. Thursday August 18 the Pee Wee "A" boys play in Auburn.
